I need to replace my side cover gasket (push rod cover gasket). I was talking about getting an OEM gasket from toyotapartsdeal.com and a buddy was telling me i might be better off going felpro because some of the OEM gaskets are "old new" stock now. I figured that while i was in there i would do the the distributor shaft O ring which i think is part number 90099-14090 I don't think that one matters as much an O ring is an O ring (correct me if i'm wrong). I also wanted to do the oil galley plug but i can't seem to find a part number for that. Curious what you all's opinion is on OEM vs Felpro. I've always preferred OEM but I'm curious is felpro might be the better route.

Besides the side cover gasket, and distributor cap o-ring, and galley plug is there anything else i should consider doing while inside that side of the motor?

I think you have covered all the stuff on that side of the engine. Attached is my Trails article from the past, if it helps. I would use OEM every time and apply a light coating of FIP to it. The galley plug is covered in other Mud threads, but you don't replace it with OEM plug - you drill, tap, clean, and install a threaded plug in the galley hole.

Are you seeing oil leak around the push rod cover?

Oh yea everywhere.
The OEM push rod cover gasket is the typical Toyota cork. I have one standing by for mine, but still trying to find a shop other than dealer who can tackle it. This might be one to have the "old wrenches" at the dealership do...for my peace of mind, though. Perhaps same for rear main seal (also on hand).

FWIW, the seal at the bottom of the steering reservoir leaked for quite a while, and drips right down on that push rod cover area. Once I finally realized it was that and seal replaced, it has improved in the cover area...although I still think the cover does leak a bit.

Doing mine soon too. Where in the F is the oil galley plug?!?

High on the cast iron head, below the valve cover. If not replaced, it may look like a blob of smashed aluminum foil in the hole, which is pretty much what it is.
