Found a 1989 Auto LC for sale. Asking 2700$. Power everything, including optional rear heater. 200k miles

Looks like big rust spot in the rear lower fender/quarter panel (after the rear tire under the tail light)...looks like being eaten away.

Aside from the usual leaks, anything else I should go take a look at?

Appreciate the help. Little worried about the rust, but would be a winter car.

I could be wrong but in CA you should be able to find a 60 or 62 with little to no rust for that price. You'll find that rust is gonna be the biggest deal breaker on these trucks, check the frame for rust as well. I would pass on it, 2700 is waaay too much.Maybe some members in CA could post up recent findings and numbers for comparison.
Keep looking
Good luck

The biggest things to look at are:
- Engine Compression
- Transmission clanking or noise
- 4WD Hi and Lo
- Even wear on tires?

Check these basic things and it will lead you to a good truck to start with. Crawl under the truck and see if the skid plates were ever abused. That will let you know if it was ever seriously offroaded. On the rust issue I am the wrong one to chime in, I have none and live in Ca. Good luck.

Thank you very much. This truck is in the midwest, thus the rust. Thanks!

Look in the FAQ as well. There is a list / thread that goes over introductory stuff that you will want to go over.

Same color as mine!
Look for a local CA truck for that amount of $
If you wanted to repair that rust later it will get real pricey real quick.
x2 on what Randy said FAQ is your friend
Check classifieds here as well maybe some local mudder is selling

There are cheap low mileage ones showing up on craigslist...

That is where I found this. Sight unseen, seller says nothing lower than 2500.

These three seem like a decent place to compare price vs. body condition in CA, especially the first one for sale by owner. The 92 would last awhile considering the miles are ok, just be sure to check out the fj80/fzj80 FAQ becouse they are a bit on the slow side ......;)

87 Toyota Landcruiser
1988 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 4WD AUTO
1992 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4

Don't expect a 5spd on the first one, my guess is its a misprint

Thanks for the link. The first one in pic looks like 5 speed. Would be excellent, but I am stuck in mid west for work, and need to buy around here :frown:

When I was in CA and looked to buy, all the rigs were in the mid west. Now that I am in the midwest, all the good rigs for sale are on the west coast:crybaby:
