Hello all,

I have a 200 series LC, but have always been a fan of the more vintage models. I came across an ad for what seems to be a pristine/awesome BJ75 close to me, but I honestly have no way of knowing if the asking price is on par for condition.

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this, but I would certainly appreciate any feedback/education you can provide.

Thanks in advance!

@joekatana is probably your go to guy for this information.

First thing I noticed was that the ad you linked is over a year and a half old. Is the car even still for sale? It was in Boulder, where I live, but I've never seen that Troopy around town. I do have a pretty good idea where the photos were taken, though, so it probably was here.

Second thing I notice is that nothing in that interior is original except perhaps the dash, the sunroof is a non-factory add-on, and the exterior paint looks as though it's maybe been redone (redone paint always calls for close inspection IME). The mechanical work that the seller says he did is a plus.

As for price, I know of somewhat rusty 3B powered LHD Troopies that have changed hands in the $15-20k range. Also some mostly original, reasonable miles ones with little rust that have changed hands in the $20-25k range. Maybe some guys got better deals, or paid more, but those are ones that I personally know about. Also, I currently have a BJ75 in the classifieds available for $17,900--it has some rust (detailed in the ad), but the frame is good, as is all the running gear. I've had lots of interest, just waiting for someone to pull the trigger.

Hopefully, that helps give you an idea of what people are paying for these trucks. As for whether the seller's price is reasonable, I'd say check for Bondo under the paint (and rust under the Bondo). Pull up the floor mats--what's it look like under there? Drive it. Check the compression. Do your due diligence. If it all checks out A+, then he's probably only a little high, in my opinion. Negotiate.

Thank you all for the replies. Looking forward to learning more about the 70 series before taking the plunge it seems. The search continues...

Just curious, are you in South Carolina?

I live in SC, but the above BJ is currently in Atlanta despite the listing for Colorado. The guy who owns it is an acquaintance of a friend who reportedly just trailered it to ATL when he moved.

If you want a "total immersion" of all things 70 Series just join us in late September. There will be 70 Series out the wazoo.

I know this is ancient history, but he's got it up for sale again. Did you go look at it in 2018?
