I am changing directions with my 1968 FJ40 build and I am looking for parts for a 1989 3F-E engine that I found.
I haven't bought it yet but I know that it needs an ECU, wiring harness, Mass Air Flow Sensor, starter, bell housing, flywheel for a manual transmission & clutch parts, a coil, exhaust manifold etc.
Before I take the plunge I would like to know if these parts are still available.
Please let me know if you have some of them to sell or know where I can get them.

There was a guy on the SF Bay Craigslist that had a bunch of cruiser parts. I think he had an ad a couple weeks ago for a crate that had all the wiring, intake, ecm etc for around $400.

I just e-mailed him. Thanks!

I probably have most of not all the parts in Phoenix but also have the 3FE that goes with it.
I seem to have run out of message threads which I assume means th that I need to pay IH8MUD for an upgrade on my membership. In the mean time, e-mail me at lexw1@outlook.com.
I will likely be in Phoenix this weekend checking out the other engine and could swing by to see what you have.
Thanks

what trans are you going to use will matter which bellhousing you will need.

I picked up a 4 speed transmission and T-case and they are being rebuilt now. And yes I will need to buy a bell housing. And I understand that the bell housings that has 3F on the casting does not have the mounting holes to mount to the frame which I need.

Update! I don't need the exhaust manifold but I do still need the exhaust pipe that has the O2 sensors.

I bought the 3F-E engine yesterday and I found a starter, 4 speed bell housing, flywheel for a manual transmission, clutch parts, coil, exhaust manifold.
But I still need the ECU, engine wiring harness, and an exhaust pipe with the O2 sensor bung holes (with O2 sensors if possible) for a 1989 3F-E engine.

I have heard that. I understand that can be solved with spacers.

But I will be using an older 4-speed transmission bell housing and frame mounts which should keep the clicked right. If there is a problem, I should be able to shim the front motor mounts. Correct?

Should read "engine clocked right"

Not sure what spacers you are talking about? 3F uses a crossmember under the transmission. 40 series never used the 3F bellhousing.

Have you figured out about emissions in Tucson? My registered cruisers are kept in a non emissions part of the state. If I used my 3FE was going in a 65 FJ45 which is emissions exempt everywhere in the state. Places that do require emission in AZ go back to 1967.

If the front motor mounts on a 3F are the same as on an F or 2F, I won't need any shims.
I had read somewhere on IH8MUD that someone needed to use spacers to keep the engine straight.
But it may have been someone that used a 3F bell housing.

I have only owned it a couple of days and I still need to pick it up in Phoenix this weekend.
I am sure that I will have much to learn in the next few months.

And yes, from what I hear, I will have to pass emissions just like any car newer than 1967.
This is one of the reasons I liked the idea of a fuel injected F motor.
I had an old carbureted Dodge Power Wagon and always has to pay a mechanic to get it through emissions. I was glad to get rid of it.

I had initially planned to put a 4.3L vortec V6 but all of the adapters, exhaust modifications started adding up to almost the cost of rebuilding a 2F.

I looked for 2F motors but compression tests told me that they were unlikely to pass emissions.
The cost of a 2F core and having someone else rebuilding it was prohibitive.

I almost decided to rebuild one myself until this 3F-E showed up.
And the 3F-E has almost as much HP as the V6 with a higher power band than a 2F.

I have a 1985 Toyota EFI 4X4 and it has been very reliable going on 15 years now. I trust the Toyota did at least as good of a job with there 1989 3F-E engine.

Wish me luck!

I bought the flanges for new 3fe pipes from a guy on here last summer. He was making a bunch up for a group of us. If you search 3fe flanges or downpipes you might find him before I can remember who it was. They aren’t that complicated, just the flange is the hard part.
