If the front motor mounts on a 3F are the same as on an F or 2F, I won't need any shims.
I had read somewhere on IH8MUD that someone needed to use spacers to keep the engine straight.
But it may have been someone that used a 3F bell housing.

I have only owned it a couple of days and I still need to pick it up in Phoenix this weekend.
I am sure that I will have much to learn in the next few months.

And yes, from what I hear, I will have to pass emissions just like any car newer than 1967.
This is one of the reasons I liked the idea of a fuel injected F motor.
I had an old carbureted Dodge Power Wagon and always has to pay a mechanic to get it through emissions. I was glad to get rid of it.

I had initially planned to put a 4.3L vortec V6 but all of the adapters, exhaust modifications started adding up to almost the cost of rebuilding a 2F.

I looked for 2F motors but compression tests told me that they were unlikely to pass emissions.
The cost of a 2F core and having someone else rebuilding it was prohibitive.

I almost decided to rebuild one myself until this 3F-E showed up.
And the 3F-E has almost as much HP as the V6 with a higher power band than a 2F.

I have a 1985 Toyota EFI 4X4 and it has been very reliable going on 15 years now. I trust the Toyota did at least as good of a job with there 1989 3F-E engine.

Wish me luck!

The spacer comment may have been from me. Had northing to do with 3FE or bellhousing. Was about adding a four speed in a FJ40 designed for a three speed. The transmission cover in the tub changed 9/72 when a four speed was first offered in some markets.

And I am putting a 4 speed into a 1968 FJ40 that was designed for a 3 speed. Are you saying that the transmission sits too high and that I may need to zd place up the cover that the shifter sticks up through? Is this resolved if I use a cover designed for a 4 speed transmission?

That's "space up the cover" Damn spell check.

I added a four speed in my 68 FJ40 over
twenty five years ago. I used a transmission tunnel cover from a 73-78 FJ40. Most but not all the bolts lined up and needed to trim back because 73-78 is longer. I also added fender washers to the front motor mounts. Lifting the front lowered the transmission behind the back motor mounts.

Did that mess with your radiator fan shroud?
