This Dark Gray Metallic FJ62 is a 3-owner truck. It began it’s life as a corporate vehicle for 7-11 Stores in Dallas, Texas. It was bought by a friend of ours in ’91 or ’92 and we bought it from him in December of ’16. The engine was replaced in ’95 or ’96 at 115,000 miles. The odometer currently reads 238,775.

The previous owner installed a really nice sound system that includes an inconspicuous 12” sub in the back, a powerful amp under the passenger seat, and four mid-range speakers in all of the stock locations. He also had an Iron Man lift kit installed. I think it’s their 2 inch lift as you could easily fit some 33’s in the wheel wells. Most of the maintenance work over the years was completed by Edwin and Co. at Land Cruiser Specialists here in Austin. The previous owner started driving the truck less and less once they started having kids, so he sold it to us.

We got the truck and immediately addressed a few things that Edwin at LCS pointed out and I’ve been slowly replacing other small stuff along the way to ensure its reliability. This thing runs like a top. It has been my wife’s daily driver for the last year. If you live in Austin, you may have seen her belting out ’80’s rock ballads up and down MoPac or Shoal Creek Blvd. She’s loved every minute in this thing. However, we’ve decided to sell it in order to get her into a newer 4x4. Her business recently opened up a second location across town, so her commute is sometimes double or triple what it used to be.

  6. The AC blows cold as hell!

THE NOT-SO-GOOD

Here’s a list of some things that you may or may not want to address, some of which are common with these old trucks:

  1. The paint has faded in the typical areas such as hood and roof, while the passenger side doors have some good size areas where the paint has chipped off completely. There are a few small dings and dents.
  2. Sometimes the ‘ol 238k mile original transmission needs to warm up a little in the mornings. She just needs about 100-200 yards to get her juices flowing before she’ll start shifting gears like normal. Once the fluid is warm, it shifts flawlessly. This doesn’t happen every day, though.
  3. This truck will mark it’s territory with about 2-3 drops of oil every time you park it which is pretty common for a rig of this age.
  4. The rear left window motor does not work.
  5. The dash is cracked.
  6. Steering knuckle has recently been feeling a little loose. There’s a little play in the steering wheel, currently.

SOLD! for $10k cash. Ebay only brought $8100 in the end, but I had a buyer from MUD swoop in immediately afterward. This 62 has a bright future now.

Thanks, MUD family. Maybe some day we will be back in the LC game.
