Hi, Car just had a valve job. Car runs smoothly at all speeds . However when first started it will idle for a few seconds poorly as if lacking fuel. Then you can drive it for about a mile or so then dies. Restarts easily and runs great after that. However the dieing resumes each time the car is turned off. Thoughts? Thanks, Mike

Is the coolant temp sensor wire on the thermostat housing in the right place?
Just thinking of what could have gone caterwampus after removing a valve cover for valve adjustment.

Thanks, Actually it was knocked off but I put it back on but it had no effect.

Double check all those thermostat connectors are “the right ones in the right spots”.
Theres a few of them at that place.
Could be the coolant temp sensor itself got damaged. The FSM has a test for it.
Also, did you check for any codes?
Truck might be trying to tell you what’s wrong.

Check all your intake air tubes and make sure nothing is cracked or disconnected. Any air that bypasses your AFM can cause a similar condition... most prevalent at, or just off, idle.

Both connectors crumbled on drivers side of lower thermostat housing, anyone have the part numbers for those? Thanks, Mike

I’m assuming the square connectors with wire clips are no longer available

I believe you can still get an aftermarket generic connector for it, let me have a look.
Update: I think I have a line on the square connector for the EFI temp sensor. Not sure on the cold start. If you need to replace your sensors then definitely switch to the more commonly available later ones since you can still easily get them and the connectors.
