Not sure this is the right thing to do but with a 97 FZJ80 AND LX450, my stable is a little full right now so one needs to go.

Here is the lowdown:

3rd owner 1985 FJ60

235,XXX miles

Rust free body and chassis. No frame rust anywhere and while the body has a couple dings, it is rust free as well.

Being my first cruiser, I dove in to learn as much as I could about the truck. Lots of little threads on MUD about the work I did. Here are the highlights with all work described below being done within the last 8,000 miles:

Engine ran very strong but there were some leaks so I pulled the engine and installed new mainseal, new front timing cover seal, new side cover gasket, new valve cover gasket. Went through the oil cooler with new gaskets and check valve. Rebuilt carburetor, installed new Toyota oil pan (old one leaking around drain plug) with factory pan gasket, new t-stat housing gaskets, and new toyota fuel pump with spacer. New toyota alternator, starter, and powersteering pump.

Engine has been desmogged with the distributor being recurved by Jim C. (have receipt). New toyota plus, rotor, distributor cap, plug wires, etc. New Toyota air intake hose.

Plugged the oil galley in the head. No leaks. Confirmed that oil galley on backside of motor is plugged with threaded plug, not the welch plug.

New CSF radiator with new water pump and t-stat. All new belts and hoses. Deleted the rear heater. Had the front heater core joints soldered to take care of any future issues with those funky joints giving out. New toyota heater valve.

Transfer case rebuilt with new bearings and gaskets, etc. This was the largest issue with the truck when I got it. Output flange bearing was destroyed and much of the internal parts and pieces were beyond saving. Georg (Orange45) came to my rescue with great parts. New Toyota pinion flanges installed on T-case output and rear differential (about $300 for each)

New Toyota u-joints installed in the driveshafts

New Toyota clutch with new clutch master and slave cylinders.

Brake calipers rebuilt using Toyota parts. Toyota pads installed with Mountain (Toyota OEM) rotors installed. New Toyota wheel cylinders installed in rear with original drums being resurfaced. All new hardware and shoes installed. All brake hoses replaced with Toyota hoses except for stainless braided hoses on the front.

Rebuilt the front end including the knuckles with Marlin seals. Installed new Japanese 555 tire rod ends. Steering box rebuilt by West Texas off-road with new high pressure hose (Gates).

Spend an insane amount of time under the truck cleaning the frame and the body. Painted the frame with a Eastwood frame and undercoated the body with Corrosion X (in lieu of oil and kerosene or some other concoction)

Blasted out the hard fuelines and replaced all soft fuel hoses including all of the vent hoses and the big filler hose. New sending unit and the tank was cleaned and coated by a local, reputable radiator shop. they have done lots of work for me in the past and use Redkote which has always performed well.

Oh, almost new 31 X 10.5 X 15 BFG KO's including spare

As for the interior I pulled it and cleaned out the inside of the truck. New padding and washed out the carpeting. Have not done much else which is probably the area of greatest need. The passenger seat is in great condition ( a little dirty) which the rear seat is in outstanding condition. no rips or tears. As to be expected, the drivers seat cover has the typical area blown out on the outer edge and the cushion is exposed. The dash is also cracked.

The only other issue is the suspension. I have not touched the springs or the shocks. I've done some light wheeling in the truck and she does fine. For the rest of the around town driving that I do, the current set-up is fine.

This is a great truck. Can sit for a week and immediately starts up at the first turn of the key. Drive really nicely with the tranny and clutch working very well while the brakes stop very solidly. While being rust free, there are a few dings in the body. the pain is original and cleaned up extremely well after I got it.

Anywho, thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions. Not a must-sell but with three 4-door cruisers it is getting a little rediculous (so says my fiancee)

I have receipts for all Toyota parts as well as from $pectre, Marlin, Cruioser Outfitters, Manafre, etc.)

$7,500 or best offer and don't be afraid to make an offer!

She's a beauty, love the red, should make someone real happy! Good Luck!

two thumbs up!

Very nice truck! if i had the space i would get it to add to my other two. Would love a red one. Good luck on sale i am sure she will sell.

Sweet Ride

I'd be all over that if I didn't buy mine fairly recently! Someone is gonna be really happy with this 60.

Yeti, sorry to see you selling the 60 but I understand about too many irons in the fire. I've personally seen this 60 and she's everything Yeti describes. Well worth the asking price.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Ron. She actually looks better than last time you saw it having had a good bath!

Posting up additional pictures of the interior. Remember that other than pulling the interior and cleaning the body and carpet, I have not really touched anything inside.

I do have a NOS grey plastic surround for around the climate control levers and other switches. I am also pretty sure I have another front section of factory grey carpet I scored from another Mudder. NEeds cleaning but might be better than the one in it. As stated above, the worst things are the driver's seat and the dash.

Yes, that is a factory hand throttle in the pic below:

I didn't mention it above but the exhaust system was removed, painted with high temp paint, and reinstalled with new exhaust gaskets.

I also replaced TONS of fasteners with Toyota fasteners. Why do that much work only to reuse old bolts.

I also removed the intake and exhaust manifolds and had them planed to make sure they were nice and flat. Taking these apart required the replacement of many fibrous gaskets and a metal gasket that is not cheap.

Some build pics:

Nice clean body:

Enough for now!

Can't believe it, James! I was suspicious, though, when you started adding 80's to the stable. It's all down hill from here!

I can vouch for the work done on this cruiser as well. James was meticulous in his detail to cleaning and getting the mechanics on this cruiser up to new standards.

Given that rust and catching up on preventative maintenance are 2 of the biggest issues and expenses on these cruisers, this is a great one to consider. My $0.02.

Hey Scott! Thanks for the vote of confidence as well. Still quite a few things to be done to make her tip top but she is a good truck.

Let's get together soon!

What? No! I really liked seeing your ride when we met last month. GLWS, sure it wont last too long.

hey Daniel,
thanks for the bump and the kind words. Two 80's is getting to be enough for me so the 60 needs to go to a good home.

Sounds good to me- I'll swap some of my old, original parts off my 60 for some of those shiny, brand new parts (PS pump, air intake hose, etc) off your 60 while you're not looking.

Moving from the 60 to the 80, huh? Next time we all meet we'll have to go somewhere that serves Heinekin or Stella Artois instead of your usual Shiner to suit your taste.

Dang Scott! You sure did cut deep!

I actually did sell her today to really good dude in Dallas. Looks like she's going to go to Colorado and live on his mountain property. Cannot think of a better way for her to spend the rest of her years!

You do not have to worry about me stepping up to the fancy beer either. I'm a Shiner Bock man and always will be!

That was quick! Glad you sent her to a good new home. And I suppose Shiner is refined enough for 80 owners as well!
