1985 3FE Swapped FJ60, a Refresh

I’ve also had to play the @HemiAlex Grey Gardens game with the cooling system of my 60. I’ve flushed it multiple times but always had rusty silty sludge develop on my radiator cap. I got a container of the Evaporust and ran that this week and flushed it out today. I’ll run straight water for another week and then flush it again.

255 fit better in what way? Mainly aesthetic or? Either way that’s great price, nice score.
Less wheelwell gap mainly. I wasn’t happy with the height or traction of my 235 KO2s. The Geolandars have much better traction being an M/T. With the 235s I hit my springs and axles on a lot of rocks, the extra 1.5” of height should help with ground clearance.
With the H55F and 4:11 gears my speedo was also thrown off by the height of my 235/85r16s. With the 255/85r16s it reads much closer to my actual speed.

I hope not too fast.

Should be fine.

The compound is pretty soft. Reminds me on the gummy tires I put on my KTM.

So far mine are doing OK.

I quite like them too.

I think the highway wears them down faster.

I plan to rotate mine about every 3K miles. I do drive my 60 a lot. I put 20K miles on it in the last year, and I know they’ll wear faster than the KO2s did but I believe the trade off will be worth it.

Yes. It will be worth it 100%

I’m gonna give a KM3 a try next. But odds are these Geolandars will last me the next 20 years.

3FE Things

My truck started running really rich recently and afterfiring, A LOT. I "scanned" it and the ECU revealed a code #22, indicating a fault in the coolant temp sensor or circuit. I replaced the connector going to the sensor as a first step because I knew that it was very degraded being 1988 plastic and wasn't clicking onto the sensor properly. This did not resolve the issue, I replaced the sensor with a Japanese Tama unit next, no change. The truck was still running rich and was actually shooting flames out the exhaust a couple of times when I downshifted going uphill. I then swapped out my ECU for a spare and the code is gone, and my truck isn't shooting flames anymore.

I'll split my ECU apart and see if I can see anything on the board.

I'm still getting very poor fuel mileage. 10-11 MPG. Before I put my 255/85r16s on I was averaging between 13-14 MPG. I don't believe the tires knocked down my mileage that much, so I will continue to do some further diagnostics and see if I can determine why fuel economy is so poor. I will probably check timing as a first step, as well as swap out my fuel filter as it's been probably five years since it was replaced last.

I’ve been driving the snot out of per usual, pulling trailers and hauling boats.

I drove it about 700 miles over the weekend, canoeing in the Smokies.

And on Tuesday I did about 300 miles between normal commuting and going to get a bed for my RN48 project.

3FE is doing good.
