1984 FJ60 wiper question HELP, it is raining!

for some reason the wiper arms on both sides of my truck broke within a day of each other. I suspect it was the guy at Jiffy Lube that put the new wiper blades on the day before....but doesn't really matter. I gotta start changing my own oil(!).

Anyway, the arms are rusty, but fine/solid. They are fine all the way to the end where the blades connect and that entire plastic part broke and is completely gone.

Do I need entire new arms? Or can I just replace the plastic part on the end of the arm?

Of course after 10 straight days of sun it is raining outside now.

The dealership wants $60 per arm, which seems high. I have an email in to CruiserDan as well.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Without wipers, I will be driving my wife's old Corrola....

I am going to just replace those arms anyway. The rust is the only rust on my truck and ugly.

CruiserDan just gave me a quote for arms that was 40% cheaper than my local dealer. No wonder he gets such good press here.

Just curious...what does Jiffy Lube charge for an oil change on a truck that takes 8 qts of oil?

If, when you get your all-new Toyota wipers and blades installed and they skitter and judder along the windshield(as mine did) the fix is easy...gently bend then blade attachment flange so that the rubber blades are exactly perpendicular to the windshield glass...I removed them and used needle-nose pliers to do mine.

I had a similar problem after purchasing my "new" 89 FJ62. Driving home from Florida I ran into a bit of rain and the passenger side wiper blade flew off the vehicle. I replaced mine with some standard Bosh wiper blades that have the plastic attachment in the box. The plastic attachment was a pain to slide onto the wiper arm.
1. Remove the wiper arm.
2. Lube the end of the wiper arm w/ something like WD40.
3. Slide the plastic attachment on the wiper arm. Be sure the hole in the plastic attachment slides over the metal 'tit' on the end of the wiper arm.
4. Reattach the wiper arm and you are good to go.

BTW, how much was the new wiper arm from CDan? Did you get the plastic or rubber grommets that fit the base of the arm next to the hood?

it's surprisingly cheap, around $22-25 here in the middle of nowhere, which includes topping off most of your fluids. cost-wise it's kind of a wash, but I almost always find something I wouldn't have noticed otherwise while I'm waiting for all the oil to drain out. plus it's a headache to drop off and pick up your rig.
