Hi everybody, so I’ve decided to sell the Cameldog after finishing my trip to the States, I’ve put up ads in the windows and hope to either sell it on the road or on MUD. If nothing pans out by mid-December I’ll start posting on CL and eBay.

I’m asking $12500, which is $2500 less than what I put in to source, buy and ship the car. The $1000 odd dollars I’ve put in since I got here is not factored in. Since I'm going to by flying home soon, I'm open to reasonable offers.

The background of the truck is that I brought it in from Western Australia in September and have been road tripping the country with it ever since. I’m scheduled to fly out mid-Jan 2010 but would am happy to let go of the truck anytime after the 1st of December. I can drive it to your door anywhere in the Southwestern United States for the price of the diesel to get it there.

The most important aspect of the truck is that it is mechanically perfect. I’m not super-knowledgeable on LC’s but it all seems original (except the seats), drives straight and true, brakes sharp, comfortable highway driver. All the knobs, dials and switches work. Electrics all work as they should. I haven’t had a single issue since starting my trip. It’s taken highway and dirt track in 15 states like a champ, and I have avoided the Northern States to ensure that it hasn’t been exposed to any salted roads. I have replaced some parts, but it’s all been precautionary. The truck has been seen by various MUD members along the road, please feel free to chip in opinions or comments.

I haven’t got detailed pics of the cruiser (just lazy to unpack the whole thing to take the photos). If you want me to photograph something in particular I’d be happy to oblige.

Ok, the lowdown:

1983 HJ47 Troopie
Original 2H engine, currently on 214 000km (25 000 km put on since September)
Georgia title

The good:

Front disk brakes
Fairey overdrive
Nippondenso A/C that blows COLD
Extra 25 gallon long range tank
Dual battery system (but it is a 12 volt truck)
All fluids (including transmission and axles) replaced 5000 miles ago
Complete front axle rebuild 5000 miles ago by Proffitts Cruisers
Replaced rear slave cylinders
Replaces master brake cylinder

The bad:

Front seats not original (but very comfortable)
No rear jump seats
25 year old paint, so she don’t shine.

The ugly:

The metal part of the roof has rust in the two front corners and about halfway down the passenger side
The bottom of the back doors are pretty rusted.
The sides of the truck, along the point where the rear steps meet the side of the body are warped and I can see rust coming through. Nothing bubbling or crumbly, but it’ll need attention at some point.

To wrap it up, the truck has been good to me over the last few months. I want it to go to a good home. I am not trying to profit out of the sale, I've had my fun and just want to recoup what I can before going home.

I hope I haven’t forgotten anything, if you want to know anything else I’ll be glad to oblige.

When are you leaving and what state will be the last stop? Shipping can be a big cost depending where you finish up.

I'll finish up in Central California. The rig'll come with Georgia tags and a bill of sale (that's where I imported it to).

I'm leaving for Hawaii after Christmas, but if a deal is struck early enough I'll drive the rig to anywhere within 1500 miles of San Francisco for the price the gas and a bus/plane ticket home.

I'm interested if you still have it for sale. I'm in Austin, TX. Where are you now?

Thanks for posting the pics. I've got most of the details worked out on another deal, which looks like it is going to go through. If it falls apart, I'll be interested in yours. Will post in a couple of days. Looks like a great truck. Not too hot on RHD, but the late model features are nice. The one I will probably end up with is a much older LV. It would be cool to have AC and the HJ engine/gears though!

Hey Tony! Sorry for the late reply, I'm in California, headed to San Francisco, but happy to take any pics you might want.

Is this thing going up in price? I saw a craigslist ad with the price of $15,000.00 and I talked to the "gentleman" over at Global Classic Imports and he was trying to sell it to me for $18,000.00---talk about mark up. :censor:

Hi Bikerso,

No, not going up in price - the vehicle is worth $18000.

I needed to sell the truck quick because I'm leaving the states before the end of the year. I heavily discounted the sale price on MUD in order to sell it quickly. Unfortunately, my fellow Mudders did nothing but kick tyres, so I got hold of global classics and asked them if they would sell it. Since I can leave it with them in storage there is no need to discount my asking price.

As for the craigslist post, I dropped the price to 15k because anyone who would be interested would be in the Bay Area, where I am, and thus able to view the vehicle directly. I figured they'd appraise that the vehicle was worth more than that and buy it quick. I'd rather leave the states with a little less cash, but in my pocket.

Anyway, figured I should clear that up before anyone jumps to conclusions...

In fact, in the interests of sharing information, here's the craigslist ad:

'83 HJ47 Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier

No need to be :censor:!!

Thanks dude! I'm looking forward to learning more about these trucks. I just purchased this truck so I'll likely be fairly active on this forum trying to learn how to restore it properly...

1) I am glad it sold. Now I don't have to even think about scrounging together the money to buy it. Good for you Riaz.

2) Welcome to MUD! :flipoff2: From what I saw, you got a great rig. Are you going to repair the rust, or just run it as it is?

3) Start a thread in the 45 section (not just the classifieds) detailing the truck. I demand it. ;)

Dan

I'm planning to deal with the all of the body rust immediately as one of my friends has experience restoring old VWs so hopefully that goes smoothly. The hardtop looks to be a bit more difficult so I might try to get that done by someone with more experience and space (I'm in college so that means it's not like I have a large garage to do extensive repairs). Thanks for the suggestions for threads!
