I thought Mahindra made the CJ-3B copies in third world countries after Jeep sold them the rights. Is Mitsubishi a part of Mahindra?

Jeremy

Is it a 2 seater or are there additional seats in the back?

i know a lot about these Mits, excellent vehicles if stock. better than a land cruiser 40 series in every way.

but

unless the diffs have been changed out they are not 30 and 44 ...

Sorry if I pull this off topic but not being very familiar with these I am curious on how they are better?

About the 60 mph top speed, is that top attainable speed or top cruising speed? Just wondering because I can get my 40 no faster than 140 kph but wouldn't want to cruise at that speed

Some of the newer ones are turbocharged ie 85 and newer . Correct me if I am wrong.

95 and newer is turbo and intercooled
85 and newer can be turbo.

how is the mits jeep better than a 40?
shorter - better break over angle
narrower - better manouvability
better approach angle
better departure angle
better on fuel
better diff geared from factory
2.48 t/case low (if i remember correctly - been a while)
better acceleration
lighter
very strong diffs
bullet proof 4 speed
low maintenance diesel
mechanical oil gauge factory
gauges that actually work
windshield folds down easier than the 40 (2 big handle clamps)
front seats are surprisingly comfortable
rear seats look like a joke but work very well

,if i didn't have 5 70 series in the back yard i would be into these instead> i have owned 4 and wheeled 2. the turbo one i had i challenged a BJ74 locked even though the one i had was open front and rear. the turbo BJ74 was the first land cruiser to make it up said hill. the open diff'd Mits was the second vehicle to ever make the hill (right behind the BJ74) ... it took 45 mins to build up enough courage to come BACK down the hill.

in a nutshell, i will challenge ANY stock land cruiser off road with a stock Mits ... if i still had one that is.

and no, 60 mph is NOT comfortable or recommended substained speed in one. 50 mph is easy, 60 is for short spurts and 80 mph is for s***s and giggles (and scary as hell)

That's why you see these things in every area that NATO is in, and all the NGO's and the taliban use them.

Every wildlife show from Africa has loads of them. I have seen countless threads here on mud of people who drive these around the world and live in them for years on end. Yes, better in every way.

Wayne, I've seen you wheel these and they do great on the trail...but so do quads. And I've seen bikes go where a LC (or Mits) couldn't dream of going. You need to stop making these blanket statements and clarify what you actually mean.

OP, nice rig. I hope your sale goes well.

Kevin, did i make an incorrect statement?:hhmm: I apologize then i meant to say:
Stock Mits J54/J53/J55 are better than any stock Land Cruiser.:grinpimp:
<of course they are not quads or dirt bikes>

these things are awesome. i regret not getting one when wayne could bring them in cheap. talk about a fun summer ride!

X2. I think Wayne had a low mileage unit for sale at on time for around 5K.

Jeremy
No, Mitsubishi is not a part of Mahindra (although they do partner in farm machinery). They both had a license to build the CJ-style Jeep so they look almost identical but have completely different drivetrains.

Thanks for the link.....that is one neat looking machine.
Good luck with the sell..............1978HJ45

What would the differentials be if stock from factory.? Can they have a locker added?
