I've just obtained a tacho from a 1984 HJ47 being wrecked... only problem is my 1981 HJ47 was never fitted with a tacho. I read in some threads that there may have been a spare plug behind the dash (apparently Toyota used the same wiring harnesses regardless) but I couldn't see one :bang:. Can anyone tell me what it hooks up to? Or a wiring diagram? I've fitted it to the dash but it's just not operational.

I fitted my 84 troopy with the tacho you mentioned. When i bought my truck, it didn't have one. My rig has a 2h engine. In order for it to work you need a tach sensor. Most important your bellhousing must have a hole, in order for you to install the one end of the tach sensor and the other end to the tach itself. You can check my old posts at the 45 classifieds, under wtb: troopy rear seats and tach bezel.

Yep, you need the sender mounted on the bellhousing, and a bit of wiring. If the bell housing lacks the tapped hole for the sender, there should be a flat on the side of it where you can drill and tap. The sender should be positioned above the ring gear.

The tach has a light inside, so you would want it to be on the same circuit as your other dash lights.
