Just need the housing, really, but happy to discuss the whole thing. Must be 1979 or earlier full float. I'm located in Texas between Houston and San Antonio but often travel through OK, LA, NM, AZ and CO. Thanks all.

only real option for period correct

My strongest recommendation is to use a 1981 J40 series OR better yet a 1984-1998 J70 rear FF axle and move the perches (easy job). Throw that obsolete shiat out.

Appreciate the suggestions. I like the bolt-on spindles, though.

The spindles on a pre-80 FF are welded just like a later one. Rick's suggestion is a wise one, do the later axle you get a way easier and more avaialble brake system and a huge E-brake upgrade.

i have a '68 FF axle. complete with refreshed brakes, new cylinders less 500 miles on them. its still under my driving 40, but willing to pull anytime. Im swapping to wide Diamonds. its in Cali, eastern sierras 93546

I've got one that was converted by the PO to disc brakes that I'd sell. I can get you pics if you're interested.

68 did not have factory full floating rear axle to my knowledge. 75 is the first year of the factory full floating rear axle. Mostly a later Toyota axle or aftermarket kit.

must b. its drum

The earliest 1975-1978/9 FF axles use a unique 3 ring locknut system for the hubs. Before yr 2000 it was impossible to find those rings in inventory even at Specter when Marv was at height of superpowers. zidaro, full float axles have hubs on the outboard ends that carry the weight of truck and only came in 1975 and later versions in land cruisers. Warn made a kit for a while that still depends on a limited run of parts now more than 25 years old. A 1968 would be a "semi float" axle where the shaft and bearing carry the load and does not contain the hubs. 80 series were first delivered US truck with factory full float after 1992.

good info. thankyou. I'll have to obviously dig into it and see what ive really got. Im familiar with the 80 series. I honestly thought the 6bolt hub flange on the rear was indicative of FF. and never looked deeper since the brakes are working primo.
