I am getting this hollow noise coming from my crank..or center of the engine, come to my surprise..I was 3 quarts low on oil. I'm not sure how long i've been 3 quarts low, it could have been several hundred miles. What are my chances of saving this engine? and What am i looking at in terms of damage? any possitive input would be appreciative.. but im willing to except reality. Thank you all for taking your time in reading this.  :o

I have seen guys run um low on oil to where they were knocking then put oil in drive like nothing happened. How long did you drive it once you started hearing the knock? I think a lot of it is luck but if you did not drive/ let it run long it very well might be ok. I rolled my fuel injected fj60 it ran upside down smoking/knocking for a few min while I tried to drive out of a bad situation and it runs perfect to this day that was 4 years ago.

you are prolly just fine, they hold 8qts of oil.........not like being 3 low is good.......but prolly not that bad. Fill her up and see what happens

I agree, you should be ok. It also depends on your oil. If you are using light weight oil, you would probably be in trouble. If you are running syn or something like Mobil 1, you can run 5 quarts low and be ok for a while. If you are still running, you are probably fine. But I would change the current oil and filter to remove any debree or burn deposits.
