For Sale 1978 fj40 - socal ca 92082

The time has come to sell the FJ40. It is a 1978 Model with current CA tags and Smog etc.

It has some rust around the rear section under the doors but apart from that is rust free and very honest. Paint is mostly original with the front RHS Guard having been sprayed at some time. It comes with a full hard top and doors etc but is currently in soft top config with just a bikini top. It has rear jump seats and new front recovers in factory style. Tyres are BFG KM2 in a 31x10.5 on factory rims. Suspension is full OME and has about 1500 miles on both it and the tyres. Brakes have about 1000 miles on them and it stops on a dime.

Everything works and it drives like most stock 40 series with a 2F.

Only issues I am aware of are:
- Rear rust areas as mentioned above
- Dint in RHS Sill
- Rear main leaks slightly but not enough to bother fixing at this stage.

It is a very honest truck and has nothing hidden that I am aware of. I am selling it as I simply have to many toys and this one is first on the list of least used.

Not much else I can say, it is a stock 1978 FJ40 with heaps of character.

Few comments and answers to save me typing them over and over

- I will post more pictures in this thread when I get them, probably tomorrow afternoon.

- Asking me for more info is a WASTE of key strokes, if you want to know something ask a question and I will happily answer it. I have no idea what you want to know in the more info request.

- Cruiser is in my garage and surrounded by mid life crises storage. I will take pictures of it as it sits dust and all. I have nothing to hide and if you need to see it washed clean and sitting near a palm tree with a half naked lady in the front seat to buy it then I guess this is not the cruiser for you.

- I am not broke and I am not stupid so offering me some silly amount and expecting a response is a waste of effort. I have posted a price and I am happy to negotiate with serious buyers.

- Cruiser is sold when I have money in my hand, sending me a message saying I will take it is not how you buy a car. If I think you are serious and we have spoken in person and better still you are standing in my driveway with a hand full of cash then I will happily do deals. If you wish to buy a 1978 car site un seen after a single internet post then you are a gamer person than I.

Now some more details.

Car is factory paint apart from teh front RHS Guard respray

Right hand side side step is bent up slighhtly and the sill above has small dint / kink in it.

Rust is in the rear section under the back doors. The only othe rust is surface stuff on seams etc as you would expect from a 78 model car in original paint.

Seats where fitted with SOR Factory recovers

Rear Jump seats are still factory covered from what I can tell and have some splits on the seams.

Bikini Top is a SOR ( I think will check)

Does not have P/S

Has front disc brakes and it easily locks up all four wheels

Spare wheel is a BFG A/T not a KM2. It is not new and has maybe 90% tread left.

Does not have a stereo BUT it has had one at some stage and teh factory hole is cut to suit din, badly I may add. I has since been fitted with a factory Toyota stereo cover but you can still see the din mods.

Car has the rear heater and it works well as does the front one.

Car comes with factory hard top, full front doors, rear bar doors which from memory where all in good condition as shown in the pics. The roof does not have a liner in it but all doors have factory trim in good condition. I think the rof gasket is still there etc but I couldn't say for sure.

Engine is the 2F 6 cylinder petrol, passed CA smog and has all that stupid smog stuff in place and working.

Transmission is the 4 speed, split case, warn free wheeling had, semi floating rear diff.

Front floor has factory grey vinyl matting and dash and knee pads have no cracks.

I haven't had it in 4WD for over 12mths, I will need to check it before I can say it is is all working fine In 2WD it drives fine without issue and I don't imagine 4WD has any issues but I will check before I say for sure.

Wow I must admit I am probably a bit caught out by the number of responses and the interest in the truck.

Thanks to the guys who have contacted me due to their concern that I am under pricing the truck. I appreciate their input and it is one of the things I love about the LC community that even when selling something there is people looking out to make sure things are sold at a fair price.

Luckily for me I am not completely uneducated and I put what I felt was a solid price on it so the new owner can enjoy it as much as I have and get a great truck at a good price.

As you may appreciate selling something on line is an interesting experience when you don't sell much on line.

So no one gets their nose out of joint I currently have several people who have shown genuine interest in the truck and I have two people who have arranged to inspect the vehicle tomorrow. Pending the outcome of those inspections I will post some updates with any outcomes, additional information learned and the updated pictures etc.

If the truck sells as a result of the inspections then I will simply post that it has been sold and the seller can post as many pictures of their new truck as they like.

Anyway thanks for the interest in the FJ, as luck would have it I still have some others so if I sell this one I won't be out of the LC Community on my Ass

Did it sell today? I am quite jealous I couldn't be there in person to look/buy today. I am dead serious about transferring money and having transporter pick it up. They said 2-3 day lead time. We just don't get decent FJs in Ohio. And it is same color as my old 76. And the kids loved it.

Look for this to be on CL for 20k within the week. It looks and sounds a lot like a 40 that was sold on MUD a couple years back out of the Las Vegas area. I was very close to pulling the trigger on it back then and regret not doing so now.

Not going to be on craigslist. I purchased it and intend to fully enjoy it with my family. A couple of months back, I tried to purchase the brown fj40 for 13k in Kentucky and I was upset when I saw it listed on craigslist a week later for 25k. This time I made sure to jump on this opportunity.

I drove this beauty home about 120 miles with the bikini top and froze my behind off lol. The next day I spent cleaning out chicken, rabbit, and rat poo (car was sitting in the garage with a chicken and rabbit. and a layer of dust). I washed and waxed her and went throught the interior. Not too much rust ... Just the rear sill and few surface spots.

I almost didn't buy it because of the rear sill but I read here it's an easy fix so I will start a build thread tomorrow with updated pics and progress.
