1978 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, located in Simi Valley, CA - $25,000
Purchased from Bring a Trailer in 2019 (No Reserve: 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-toyota-land-cruiser-fj40-27/) and has been serviced at K&H Imports in Canoga Park, CA since I’ve had it (I did the lift and most of the small stuff myself, like change the headlights and swap hardware). I believe it spent some time in Colorado as a promotional vehicle, but I don’t know much beyond that. It appears to be a high-altitude model because of the defrost tubes on the sides of the dashboard.
Stock 2F engine (runs well and has been smogged a few times since I’ve had it … zero issues). Very stock outside of the lift and tires that went on it a few years ago. Great starting point for anyone looking for a great driver that can be taken to the next level with some bodywork, paint, new seat covers and maybe some new glass (those were the last items on my wish list). It also comes with new/in box stock side steps and a box of miscellaneous parts from the previous owner, including the rear heater and heater lines.
It ran well when I purchased it and smogged easily, but there’s been a lot of updates since then to dial it in (all the major work was completed at K&H Imports in Canoga Park, which specializes in Land Cruisers) …
- New radiator with overflow tank
- New clutch
- New water pump
- New Thermostat, water outlet gasket
- Front knuckle replacement
- New oil pan gasket, transfer case gasket, front transmission gasket
- New belts, brake rotors
Other items -
- New door panels
- LED headlights from City Racer
- New rear cargo mat from City Racer
- New hood pads from City Racer
- New tool bag under the seat, but the tools are original
- New exhaust (small flow master that replaced the stock muffler). Sounds stock but without the huge muffler in the rear.
- Center console organizer
