HeavyLift, when you installed your body mounts, did you build the subframe rails between the tub and the body bushing? I remember seeing that on a Gozzard related page, and I'm thinking about doing it. I'm currently looking for a cheaper alternative to that $140 piece of poly rod. The truck looks great, I'm jealous of your diesel power....and the Gozzard tub.

JJS thank you, I am not sure that I know what you are refering to with the subframe rail? I set mine up the same way a buddy of mine had. It was straight frame to poly to tub. There is reenforced spots on the tub for the mounts though...

I think I may have explained it wrong. It looks like it goes right behind the seats where the floor rises in the rear. It's about halfway down the page, and it looks like the purpose is to prevent you from using long bushings in that spot. It's on the Crusty Cruisers page.

Ahhh....yes I am very familiar with that cruiser and the guy who rebuilt it...it's the same method that I used exactly.

Travis....sorry about the confusion

I should have mentioned the real reason behind the square tube under the tub, It was put there as a safety precaution. Its believed that the reenforced tub would provide enough support in the event of an accident but the builders of the tub wanted a no b.s. system in place in the event of frontal impact. The aft seat mounts for the driver and passanger attach through the tub and into the metal tube which in turn is mounted to the frame.....

It may be awhile, from what Matt was saying on his thread in the 45 section This guy is about to go out for another tour in Iraq.

Back from leave....

Hey guys...been gone for a long time back for a few days of leave from my latest tour in Iraq.

Spent a lot of my time up north with the family but got a couple hrs tonight in on my cruiser after spending some time cleaning the garage :D

I was working alone and trying to get the front clip aligned correctly. Anyone who has done this knows it is really a huge frustration. I might have used something similar before but I made a little bracket to push the clip where I needed it so I could tighten the bolts underneath the clip. This will align the hood, clip and fenders where they need to be.

I just used a piece of angle iron with holes drillled. I welded a nut to one side and used a bolt to push the clip in the direction I needed it to go.

First pic shows the half inch I needed everything to move.

Second pic is the bracket.

Third shows the clip pushed aligned.

wish I had a skid steer

Nice work,

Looks like that skid steer is really handy.

Alright kids, here it is….

I want to put this out first off and make sure everyone is clear about this post. This is a 1978 BJ40 out of Canada with a B series engine. I understand it’s not a FJ but I believe my rebuild will apply more to FJ Section and reach more people who might be rebuilding FJs or BJs alike. If the moderators would like me to move it to the Diesel Page I would be more than happy to and DID feel a little obligation to, but I think it will be better served in this Section. This will hopefully help me as I know I will have some questions and looking for thoughts from others. By no means am I a genius.

I am the third owner of this Cruiser and have the original Maintenance Guide signed by the original owner back in 1978 along with the Owners Manual. I plan to post a picture of these as well. The second owner used it for pulling trees out of the woods for the past few years. (Kind of scary) The odometer reads 20950km so assuming it’s rolled maybe once it has approximately 75000mi.

My Goal is to rebuild this 1978 BJ40. I want a clean looking cruiser that has been rebuilt “by me.” (Meaning, me and the enlisted help of a few friends and brothers) I have just gotten back stateside so I am trying to hit this hard this first week (in Minnesota) before I move it back down to Georgia where I will be living.
Just wrapped up my 81 BJ42, enough to get it licensed here in Az. I had to use a '72 body I found, the Canadian one was shot. Maybe will be painting soon, but everywhere I go, someone asks me if I'd consider selling it.
NO WAY
