Hello,
I am selling my uncles very clean and garage kept 77' FJ40. Due to a lack of free time and raising two little ones, he does not have enough time to enjoy this beauty.
I will start off with some history.. The truck was fully restored by a company called "Mountain Rovers" in Billings, Montana in late 2000 early 2001. The previous owner was a Doctor who obviously didn't have any desire to take on the restoration process himself. At least the 20 pages of receipts that I have imply that. I have read through them and it looks like they had this rig in a 1,000 pieces, refurbished everything reusable and/or replaced it with new parts. Here are some numbers..
Parts for rebuild: $5,848.11
Labor ($45/hr): $10,833.75
Outside Contractor expenses (paint, balancing tires, etc.): $ 2,095.24
That comes out to a cringing $18,777.10
The gentleman who owned this rig previously had it rebuilt to use as a hunting/camping rig.
Now onto what has been added since my uncle bought it.
He had Wimberley 4wd in San Marcos,Tx install an AC system along with a power steering setup. This drastically improved the drivability of the 40 and made it way more predictable and comfortable on the road. The AC blows WAY colder than my fj60!
Here is a list of the odds and ends that this rig is equipped with:
-Tuffy center consol w/ a usb compatible radio
-WARN D9000 winch
-OME suspension w/ shocks and steering stabilizer
-31x10.5x15 BFG ATs (they are basically new)
-Full size spare tire that has never been used
-Hard top w/ new OEM weatherstripping and rear doors
-There is a container full of parts that were removed including the rear heater
Those are the only things that I can think of as far as modifications go.
I do not have that much experience with the 40s, but both my dad and I are very knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with LandCruisers esp. the 60s. The drivetrain is very strong on this rig and it starts up every time. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it a long distance. Forgot to mention that it has the stock 2f with a 4spd transmission. The odometer reads 44,*** but I will have to confirm with my uncle and look at some of the service receipts to see what the actual mileage is. The paint is faded a little, but still looks great. There is only one rust spot which is on the drivers side rear quarter panel. It is the size of a quarter and could easily be fixed with a replacement panel from CCOT.
Now onto the trailer...
I have the receipt from the trailer build, which was done at the same shop as the cruiser. It is an fj45 tub mounted on a trailer frame. It has drawers on the sides for storage and a toolbox mounted on the neck. The color is matched to the 40 and fits with the rig perfectly. It also comes with a canvas tent that mounts on the trailer. The price on the receipt for this trailer set up is $5,354.26 and was completed on 5/22/01.
I will have all of these documents available to email to those who are interested by this weekend, just need to scan them. I am listing this cruiser at $27,000 OBO. Please don't waste my time with unreasonable offers, and no trades. I am located in Spring Branch,Tx (in between San Antonio and Austin). I will be driving this rig up to the LSLC round up on March 15th (Saturday).

Here are some pictures: I apologize for the Iphone pics, I lost the battery for my camera.. Ordered one last night so should have it up and running soon. I will be out of town on a ski trip starting this saturday till next wednesday, but will have access to a computer and phone at night so I can reply. One last thing, the hard top and rear doors are not included in the pictures below because I was not able to put them on myself this afternoon. Will have more detailed pics and close up shots sometime next week.
Thanks for looking,
MJ
