Thinking about getting rid of this X ternal voltage regulator in the alternator set up. What one wire alternator should I use. What make in year vehicle should I tell the parts guy

CS144

Go with one for an fj60. About 55 amps and internally regulated. I did this in my 72 with a 76 2f.

I still have the original engine and bracketing

They can easily be adapted to fit on a stock six.

Of course a newer one off a 2F would bolt on. In my case it would have been a switch from a 50 or so amp alternator with an electronic external regulator to a 55 amp internal... hardly seems worth the effort.

Looks like CS130 is easier...

I just did this 2 weeks ago. Replaced with an 80 amp from an '89 Cruiser that bolted directly into the stock mount. A HUGE improvement over the 45 amp stock, and charges while at rock crawl speeds. But, because the new alternator is larger diameter, I had to extend the adjustment arm by welding 2 inches onto the water pump bolt end (I took the arm to a welding shop in town, told them what I wanted, and they did it while I waited 15 minutes ... simple). Ordered alternator from Rock Auto for $76.97 + core; part #14836. Also, either need to swap the stock pulleys or cut the double pulley it comes with in half because your fan will hit the additional pulley (also very easy). Went through a bit of trial and error to get the exact length fan belt needed, so if you want pics or belt part number, PM me.
