I am helping a friend on this. He has a 1976 FJ55 that is 100% desmogged. Other than reinstall back all the emission components, is there anyway to get it registered in Maricopa? Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy! I have been"smog legal" for about 15 years, but it requires that the rig have EVERYTHING ON IT that it cam with from the factory, regardless of whether it is stock or modified. It can be a major pain. I have just now changed over my insurance to "Modified, Altered, or Premium" with an agreed upon value. This allowed me to go pickup Historical Plates for my Piggy. So now I have the copper colored ones. It does cost a bit more, and it is a bit of extra paper work, but well worth it. NO MORE SMOG TESTS!!!! There are some driving limits, but it is not really a big issue. I have a cool insurance agent. JohnI am helping a friend on this. He has a 1976 FJ55 that is 100% desmogged. ) and run as good as possible then have it tested. Act dumb, don't volunteer any info and see what they say it needs. I have seen a bunch pass without some things, like smog pumps, if they are cleanly removed they may miss it.
On older rigs their info sometimes isn't the best, so may not know what all was on it and may require less than all of the equipment.According to the ADOT web site, it has to be (over) 25 years old. My 85 mini truck will qualify in 2010 or 2011, depending on the (over) clause. JohnWhat is the first year available for Historical Plates?

.................Has it been to the station, been tested? I find the best way to know what they expect, is to make to look as close to stock as simply possible, any vacuum fittings need to have hose, even if plugged/hooked up wrong etc (BB's work well on vacuum line) and run as good as possible then have it tested. I find that the more rural stations deal better with older rigs, in more "high class" areas they don't deal as well with "old junk".On older rigs their info sometimes isn't the best, so may not know what all was on it and may require less than all of the equipment.
Howdy! The only problem I've had at the smog station on West Chandler Blvd is they seem to have a problem with a Landcruiser being a V8 before 1998. They always have to get the Supervisor to come over and do the visual. I have everything there that is supposed to be, and it all works. It takes about an extra 2-3 minutes, and I'm done. JohnNo, it hasn't been to any station yet. Do you have a list for older rigs friendly stations?
