1974 FJ40 Fully rebuilt and upgraded

A move to Australia forces sale. I've loved this truck and have completely built it from the ground up. It is daily-drivable dependable, and an offroad machine. Fresh paint as described below. Here is the rundown of work I've performed. All work is fully documented with accompanying digital pics, all the original parts where replaced/upgraded, and 8 years of service/repair/upgrade receipts. Includes an Alpine/Kenwood/Infinity Sub system. Toyota Supra seats. The top & doors are in refinished condition but are in Toyota Dune Beige, where the rest of the vehicle is in Toyota Strong Blue.

Body

Angle ground/stripped all metal to bare steel including underbody, tub, frame, axles, bumpers, dash, hood, fenders.

Underbody- Bumpers, frame, wheelwells, and underside of fenders POR15 silver, then POR15 black, then POR Chassis black.

Wheelwells got 2 additional coats of POR Gloss Black.

Bumpers, tie rods and exposed frame and guards got 2 coats of POR Hardnose 2-part black gloss.

POR Putty filled 2 ¼” holes on the rocker panel rearward and below each door.

Z-Coat body filler and Glaze to smooth all panels.

1 Coat PPG blue Epoxy primer,

2 Coats PPG sandable primer/surfacer.

1 Coat PPG blue Epoxy primer.

3 Coats PPG Urethane Toyota color “Storong Blue” (sic)

Replaced all body, hinge and fender bolts with stainless steel hardware.

SOR Aluminum step caps

SOR Stainless steel hood & windshield hooks & hardware.

SOR Billet aluminum hood hinges.

SOR Stainless steel door hinges.

CCOT extending side mirrors.

SOR tub liner.



Axles/Drivetrain

PowerTrax No-Slip automatic locking rear differential on new TEQ stock c-clip axles.

Extended differential breathers with 3/8” clear tubing to filter mounted on firewall.

New brake shoes all around.

Stainless steel brake lines.

Stainless steel clutch lines.

New TEQ brake master and slave cylinders.

Fresh Dot3-4-5 fluid.

4 degree shims on front axle.

CCOT Hell-for-stout shackles with greasable bolts

SOR greasable spring bolts

SOR Urethane bushings on all spring and shackle pivots.

CCOT Urethane 1” body lift.

All drivetrain bolts replaced with 8.8 grade hardened steel.

TEQ tie rod ends & steering pivot.

OME shocks stripped and painted.

Knuckles rebuilt with all new TEQ gaskets, seals and shims.

Drained and replaced all transmission, transfer case and differential fluids.



Electricals

Painless wiring harness – all wiring replaced with new.

Autometer Tach and Air/fuel Mixture gauges mounted in radio hole.

CCOT Front Turn Signals.

DUI Distributor

Alpine Alaska head unit with remote on steering wheel.

200W US Acoustics Amp in tuffy box under rear bench seat.

Infinity 10.1 Subwoofer in custom 1 ft3 enclosure under driver’s seat.

New TEQ windshield washer reservoir, pump and spray plumbing.


Engine

Adjusted valves.

Refininshed valve cover in high-temp orange.

Covered all fuel lines with high-temp reflective tape (no more vapor lock)

Set timing at 12deg BTDC

Adjusted carb

Original brake booster refinished by Booster Dewey.

2 ¼ “ aluminized steel exhaust new from manifold back.

Flowmaster 40 muffler. No cat.

O2 sensor for heated 3-wire Autometer A/F mix meter.

New alt/ps belt

Flushed and replaced coolant.

.9 Radiator cap.

Rebuilt heater & refinished in Toyota platinum interior.

Refinished all knobs and controls

PIAA "superwhite" instrument cluster lights
