hi maybe im crazy but im interested in a 4x4 jdm van and or a 4x4 jdm camper like a HiAce camper or something similar needs to be a light offroad capable setup I'm in WV will travel some i don't have a set budget will depend on the car I'm not rich so something reasonable would be grate it you have something let me know thanks

Why is that crazy? Sounds like a perfectly sane idea. There are plenty of dealers around the country along with private sellers who have these cars listed
>> I like to check this guys website . He can also import certain models upon deposit

The more capable of a van the higher a price tag they will hold.

The Mitsubishi delica is worth considering as well , it will add more off road functionality compared to the Hiace.

When debating between a van VS a proper 4x4 you have to ask yourself what you're really getting out of the van. I don't own a van, but would like the idea of being able to sort of stretch out more and maybe even standup. Otherwise, it's nothing but downsides in comparision to buying something like a 4runner and putting a bed in the back

I've been watching the Hiace market for a while now, some really cool builds come across now and then. I want one pretty bad

Here is a Delica on mud

Generally speaking you better know a good mechanic or be able to wrench on stuff, it's pretty much guaranteed there will be some level of maintenance or repairs needed when dealing with a 20+ year old imported vehicle

Totally , they seem to be more popular along the west coast . Ive seen a few dealers out that way

The biggest issues ive had with my imported vehicles is finding mechanical support for it . Noone wants to work on my old diesel and its a rare engine that doesnt have much info ....so in your hunt stick with vehicle platforms and engines that are well known . I cant give any specific example since im new to toyota diesel as well but I have been really like the Hiace .

They have some high roof models with really well equipped features .

Again the trade off going for an old van is the reduced proper off road capability . Otherwise everything else about it would be awesome ....probably can handle the majority of dirt forest roads and some light wheeling . You may also be moving alot slower than the average traffic now a days but I enjoy life at 60 mph compared to the jabronis blowing by me at 80+

Ya would have to go to a special shop to get work done I can do some myself not normal to have any big problems I've been doing lots of research there is Japanese classics in Richmond lots of basic models of hiace not many campers and the hiace will do more off road than people think I would not do hard stuff anyway the delica is better off road but are not as reliable I'll see if I can find the video of the hiace I liked and the shop that gets so cool stuff

Lot of good deals on bring a trailer for hiace recently most under 10k I just don't trust that site after some experiences I've had on there

Not sure what your timeline will be but I have a JDM camper can (still waiting to ship). It’s a Toyota Grand Hiace very similar to this (). It’s 4WD (no low range) with the very reliable 3.4L gas engine. Here are some pix. Has about 100k miles (160k km) grade 3.5B.

Mostly would depend on cost and pickup location as I can wait not in a giant rush
looks like your taking it to Canada I'm in the USA and being a 2004 not sure how that would work think it has to be 25 years old to import

Mine is already 25 years old. I sent the video just as an example. I’m located in MD.

I’m looking to find a new home for my 1997 Toyota Hiace , after 1 year of ownership and following a full mechanical update by Vanlife Northwest.

I’ll be posting formally on MUD when I have access to my laptop.

Asking $29k obo . Located in Oregon currently (possibly moving to Chicago in 2025) happy to negotiate shipping fees/flight costs with you.
