looking for a valve head and Intake manifold for a late/1974 1.5F engine

No cracks or repairs

Intake California or Federal spec?

Honestly I'm not sure? How would I tell? I know the FJ started its life in CA.

Does it have or need emissions equipment? The difference in manifolds was an EGR provision for the Cali spec.

It had emissions but they have been stripped from the vehicle. 75-pre is smog exempt in CA. I have numbers from the engine if that would identify the part. The actual engine is in storage in WA. It cracked the head and was pulled for a 77 2F

If you leave a VM at my shop, I will call you tomorrow. I have a rebuilt head, gasket set and manifold for the 74.

you're gunna be hard pressed to find an "unrepaired" 74 head that doesn't need rebuilding. that is, unless you consider rebuilt to be other than "repaired"...

if you want to maintain the ability to install the OE EGR valve at any point down the road, you will want the CAli, manifold. if NOT, then FED is what you WANT... either will work with appropriate associated gear...

The head I have on it has been pinned and failed so it's done. having it rebuilt before I purchase it is not a high priority as its labor I don't need to pay someone else to do, and work I'll probably need to redo to fit my engine block anyway. I really just need to find the parts unfailed.

That lets me out. The only F.5 heads I have to offer are uncracked and rebuilt, and priced accordingly.

Those 60051 heads off the 10/73-12/74 USA F1.5 are very hard to find in any condition. I know, I've been looking for one as a spare for a few years and they just don't show up - MUD, ebay, Craig's ... And even then, from an unknown private party, there's always the risk the head could be bad, too unless seller is willing to magnaflux. In fact, had I known Mark had one, I would have inquired before I paid my Property Taxes! :D:p

If your location is actually only a couple hours away from Mark's Off Road (the wailing-wall of Cruiserdom in Burbank), then there's certainly pickup, versus expensive shipping from fly-over land.

But since you already have a 2F in the truck, why do you want to go back to the 1.5? Unless you're thinking you want to return to stock in order to sell the truck as original? If that's the case, keep the 2F - that's what most people want, anyway.

:meh:

Good Luck

I have found several heads for the 1.5F in the last months. $100 for a full engine. $200 for a head, $350 cleaned up, $500 media blasted, and $750 machined. Since I have machining for free it just makes more sense to stick to the $350 or less range. The intakes are easy to find for $200 or less.

i have basically 2 FJ's one drives. one is in parts. My plan is to restore this '74 back to stock pull the 2F and move it to the other FJ '75 body which will be my toy and more suited to off road. The other idea is to restore both to stock since it would cost less then $6k in additional parts for both to do correctly and sell them to buy a Volvo C303, and put some $ back in the bank. Once the fun of the restoration is complete I'll get bored and need another project.

I am on the wrong coast but I do have a late 73 1.5F that was running this past summer when I picked it up. Still in the frame. Mark got my last one a few years ago.

Good luck with the search.

if the above is true, why do you still need to find one?

So you want a pink unicorn new in box for the price of a rode hard and put away wet donkey? Lmk when you find one.

Haha! I was not ready to start the restoration so I didn't purchase them. The wife gave the green light so now I'm actively searching with the ability to spend $.
It's funny anyone has an emotionally charge opinion about this. I'm not expecting to find a new in box for free I'm just looking for a not damaged head and willing to put my own elbow grease into it instead of paying for someone else's.
