This bike sat in a barn since 1986. I took it to the bare frame and did a budget build of a classic brit triple. This is not a show bike by any means, the frame and tins are rattlecan, and she has a few leaks here and there. It is a real nice ride, and a real conversation starter.

Choppahead +4" (2" drop) rear bolt on hardtail that was welded on for strength. Took a lot of time to make sure it was true and square.

Brand New Maxxis Classic whitewalls with new tubes. Stock front wheel, Harley Davidson 16" rear laced to a drum brake and a BSA hub, both in used condition. All new wheel bearings.

Rebuilt front caliper and new billet master, with rebuilt internals.

New fork seals and fluid.

All new wiring, using a tympanium unit to eliminate the zenor diode and rectifier. Pos. ground, but can be swapped to neg at the tymp.

3 new coils, with all condensors, all custom mounted under the tank, with the condensors inside the tunnel.
3 new sets of points. I know people say this, but this bike is truely a one or two kick bike when cold.

New valve adjustment and rocker box gaskets.

Headlight from an old toyota FJ40, as well as the rear oil cooler assembly, with a 1 qt extra capacity. Always useful on a british bike.

HD style wraparound santee-type oil tank with the correct brit fittings for rocker feed.

New plugs and wires, NGK.

New rear directionals, no fronts. All wiring goes through the factory switches, directionals, high/low beam, engine kill, tail and brake lights all work.

New seat and springs.

New rubbers.

New dragbars and mounts.

Stainless russell brake line, new.

3 Rebuilt carbs, amals, with new carb rubbers and cross lines. K&N style (brand unknown) filters.

3 into one header system, used, but in great shape.

New fork gaitors

New Battery.

This is not a beginners bike, and will require maintennance and attention as all classic bikes do. Rides straight and shifts well. It is a rigid, so be aware.

She leaks from the rocker box bases right now, but runs and drives fine. Motor was not rebuilt, but does not seem to need it. I put 20 miles on her yesterday, and she did fine, but I would definately get them done. If you are afraid to work on stuff, do not buy this bike.

NEW PRICE, $2300

Have a friend giving me a bonnie in pieces, so this needs to go.

Bump for a nice bike!

Had found an old Indian a while back...mid 20's Prince...just too much on my plate to think about it seriously...still...wish I had made the deal :bang: :bang: :bang:

Hope you find a good home for it

Thanks.

3K. Offers?

I'd kill myself on that thing... but man, I love those lines. that is a beautiful bike... for $3k, you ought to just keep it.

thanks for the nice words. I have a friend who wants to give me a left side shift 78 bonnie 750 with a rebuilt motor in pieces. He did the engine (to the tune of almost 3K) 7 years ago, never reassembled the bike and just wants out.

Nice opportunity to do it again, with a 6 over hardtail and dual disks, maybe do it up nicely with powdercoat and the like. WHo knows.

The triple is a handful, that is for sure. 2 real distinct powerbands, low end and 4500+ rpm. When it comes on, she is all there. Fun bike, but I want to build the bonnie.

I have this old girl as a rider. 1979 Honda XL500 single thumper on/off. One of the most fun bike I have ever owned.

here is a pic of the triple when I pulled it out of storage.

One damn ugly bike. :)

I am looking for $2500 now. If it does not sell for that, she goes to the 'bay. If that does not sell, she is staying.

Hi,

I am super interested in your bike! I used to have an OIF Bonnie 650, so I know a bit about Brit bikes. But turthfully, I have never even seen an old triple in real life. Was it OIF originally, or did it always come with an oil tank? Also, I guess I have to ask the obligatory, "any interest in a cruiser for a trade" question first?
I'm in Colorado. Do you have any plans of coming west any time soon? I have friends in the shipping industry, and my father in law lives in Maine, so I could probably get it shipped out here one way or the other, but it would be way easier if you just happened to be planning to drive out here next month...

Also, 5speed? Left hand shift or right? Like i said, I don't really know much about the triples...

Thanks,
Abe

Thanks for the interest. The tridents were made for along time, just no where near as many as bonnies. Never an OIF that I know of, it had a very ugly oil bag on it under the side panel. This one is a right hand shift 5 speed. They changed the next year, I think.

They were 65HP at the crank, give of take, and were considered to be one of the first true superbikes. This one has the header so it might be a little more, but not much.

Kick only, no starter (until the t-160 series).

I am in northern VT, but have a friend who has shipped quite a few bikes over the years. I could find out more if you are interested.

I really just want the cash right now, but as a true cruiserhead, I will have to ask....pics of the trade truck? :)

Here is a build thread.

Like I said, I really could use the cash for the next project, but I will always look at pics!

Trident...40

Hi Rabid,
I was going to send you a PM with all of this, but I couldn't figure out how to attach pics to a PM. So I hope you don't mind the post.
Attached are a few pics of my 40 so that you can see what I've got. It is a '74 OEM soft top model. It drives really well, but has rust issues, because the old lady I bought it from laid a bunch of rubber mats on the floors to help with sound deadening, and then her son parked it out of the garage with the top off while she was on sabatical in California for a year. So the moisture just gathered up under there...

It has an OEM PTO winch, and I have the original soft doors & part of the soft top frame (the son broke the main bows over the door & just tossed them (giant TOOL)), as well as a STC or Kayline OEM replacement top from back in the 80's when they still made them. I also have another 74 tub that needs some rust work, but is overall really clean that I got for this truck. I have been driving it, and enjoying, while planning to eventually get the other tub sandblasted & repair it, then do a swap. I also have a hardtop & doors for it... I also have a brand new pair of BESTOP offroad seats for it, that I haven't installed yet. The engine has a Holley carb/Offenshauser intake & header on it, so it goes pretty well, and gets a little better than avg. gas milage. the carb is tuned for 8000feet or higher altitude, so you would probably need to re-tune it in Vermont (unless your in the White Mountains maybe).
I am sure there are other things I am forgetting, but we can talk more about that & I can send better pics if you are interested in a trade. I could send a lot of pics via e-mail, but I'm only allowed to attach 3 pics in a post on Mud.

I was thinking something like the 40 & all the stuff, plus $500 (so that you still get a little cash for the Bonnie), in exchange for the Trident. But if you wanted some stuff, but not everything, I am sure we could figure something out.

Shipping might be the big kicker though, as my buddy that I thought could help us out, only has a network from the west coast to Chicago, not all over the east coast. So I could likely get things moved from here to Chicago & back for free, but that still leaves about a 1000 miles of open space...

But if you are interested, we could at least look into it. Even then it might turn out to be easiest to just buy the bike outright & sell my truck afterward...
At any rate, let me know what you think..

Best,
Abe

I am reposting this one more time before it heads the 'bay.

I have dropped the price to $2300, and as tempting as the other offers have been, I really am going to need the cash.

someone buy this thing.

I was going to post it on ebay, but their fees are out of hand now.

just set the reserve to cover what the fees would be. It would make a nice stocking stuffer

I have been eyeing this bike for a while. That is a good deal. How hard are parts to find? Any idea on shipping it to SC?

parts are pretty easy to find. Rask Cycle, British only, british cycle supply. You will not find much locally.

Not sure how to ship it. I could find out if you are interested.

triumph
