1973 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 - $16,900 OBO
I purchased this 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 in 2001 and it has been garaged ever since, very clean, runs and drives like a FJ40, has clean title with matching numbers to engine and is a great candidate for a body off restoration with too many new parts to list.
STATS
Color: OEM Dune Beige, but the PO painted the front end rattle can black
Engine: 1F Motor 3.9L straight 6
Transmission: 3speed manual with Hi/Lo 4x4 transfer case
Carb: Holly 2 barrel, comes with Weber carb conversion and adapter plate
Miles: odometer reads at 40,798 but likely that is 140k and actual miles are unknown
PROS
Engine: rebuilt with new bearings, rings, gaskets and seals, rebuilt head with new springs and valves all <5k miles
Exhaust: single piece custom header and custom exhaust
Clutch: replaced with engine <5k miles
Ignition: CraneCams FireBall XR700 ignition
Rear End: rebuilt with new ring and pinion, gaskets/seals
Gas Tank/Fuel Lines: new poly tank, fuel lines compatible with modern fuel additives, functioning expansion tank and charcoal canister
Electrical: all wiring has been traced, repaired and re-grounded as needed, re-wired rear main harness, new fuse block, new LED tail lights and brackets, late model front turn signal lights, all side marker lights and in dash lights work, OEM dual horns, new battery cables with fusible link , blasted and coated battery tray
Heater box: refurbished heater core no leaks
Cowl Vent: new rubber seals and hoses
Soft Top and Doors: easy to lower and take the doors off in minutes for an open air ride without the hassle of removing a heavy metal/fiberglass top and doors
Front Bumper: custom front bumper with winch mount
Solid Tub: tub is solid but has rust in the usual spots, a great candidate for a body off paint job, front floor pans cleaned and treated with POR-15 product, rear bottom sill has the typical rust but isn’t rusted out, has OEM running board on driver side
Interior: Toyota/Lexus driver seat installed with power functions ready to hook up, matching passenger seat comes with the car as well as the OEM seats that need to be refurbished, all dash knobs and trim are complete, original upper and lower dash pads, new shift boots, shift knobs and powder coated transmission hump, new gas, brake and clutch pedal rubber
Rear Doors: half doors for easy access with the soft top
Rear Seats: rear black vinyl bench seat that faces forward
Brakes: Replaced Master Cylinder, Clutch Master and Slave cylinder, new brake shoes, new stainless steel flex brake lines
Windshield: new rubber seal
Roll Bar: late model OEM roll bar
CONS
Not 100% stock: does not have matching hard top or doors, some parts are late model (i.e. roll bar, front turn signals, transmission hump is from a 4spd)
Carburetor: needs tune up or replacement, includes used Weber carb conversion with Man-a-fre adapter plate
Soft Top and Doors: this is also listed as a con since it is not rain proof, if not garaged in Seattle weather this car will encounter water related issues (i.e. rusted floor pans, electrical shorts, mold build up in vinyl top/doors, etc.)
Body Work: the tub is solid, but needs a good amount of work, the front fenders have filler in some areas, the hood has some rust in spots and also needs work, the rear doors need work, most front emblems and badging are intact, but rear badging is largely missing
Seat Belts: with aftermarket seats it is no longer NHTSA compliant and needs new seat belts
Rear Seat: needs to be bolted down with new seat belts, see above
