Hello all,

New 40 owner. Picked up this 6/73 factory soft top about a month ago. My wife named it "Wall-E". :) Nothing fancy just a stock FJ40. Original F motor - 3 speed. Looks like it was originally Dune Beige, but someone painted it a light blue. Paint is pretty faded and chipping everywhere, rust in the usual places. PO installed a 6-1 header. So far, I removed the smog equipment (thanks for the air rail plugs, Jim C) and given it a basic tune up, ran some Sea Foam thru it and adjusted the carb. Runs strong.

Got a few questions:

What is the recommended exhaust size for an F motor? 2?, 2-1/4"?
Thinking of trying a hushpower muffler.

Any way of getting brighter dash lights? SOR sells some Piaa "Superwhite" bulbs, but for 9/73-1984 FJ40

Anyone know what bulb to use on the "dome" light on the hardtop?

Passenger rear running light assembly was rusted, anyone know if Toyota still carries this part? Don't want to bother C-Dan if it's not available. Same for the interior heater ducts?

I'd like to get some floor mats. Anyone know of a source of floor mat material similar to the "Tuff Mats" that SOR sells? They really seem to charge a premium for some of their stuff.

Thanks,

The Early to 73 Dome light bulbs ? I picked up 1" long Auto Zone brand PN 3175

The red running lights are still available New @ Toyota, SOR, CCOT & Marks off Road

Mats Don,t know I am looking for some rubber mats as well, I did not like the CCOT ones, some on E-Bay for $50. but haven't seen up close.

You say Its a soft top ?..... did you git the soft top as well ?

More pictures

Welcome to mud, and yes... More pictures. Not sure on the questions as I'm new myself but wanted to say hi and welcome. Enjoy your rough, rugged, all terrain, 4x4, badass vehicle..... WALL-E ;) My gf named mine too you are not alone

with your dash lights, mine were like a bad candle so i took the cluster out and removed the small shroud around the bulb, fairly easy, put in led and it is excellent, bright as,hope that helps

Dusty,

I think it's a factory soft top because it has the dash light near the glove compartment and it has a rear tailgate. Thanks for the info on the dome light and running lights! It didn't come with a soft top, but the PO included a SM420 trans that I need to post up for sale in the classifieds.

I'll try opening up the dash cluster and see if I could find brighter bulbs, hopefully I can find some LED bulbs.

Future plans are a 2.5" OME lift with Bilstein shocks and 33" tires on OEM steelies. The tub has some rust inside, but it's not too bad.I think I might try Rust Bullet and maybe Durabak over that (I have a gallon of Durabak in the garage). I also just ordered a Pertronix Electronic Ignition and coil. I'll try to post up some better pics soon.
