Can someone walk me through this please? If I am taking this correctly the flywheel needs to to be loosened to get it far enough out of the way while still inside the bellhousing to access the last bellhousing bolts? Or do I have to pull the tranny and somehow drop the clutch assembly and flywheel then have access to these last bolt attaching the bellhousing to the engine?
This is on a 1970 FJ40 - I have no tranny support beyond the bellhousing unless it is already gone and did not come with the truck. My tranny and transfer case are hanging in space behind the bellhousing which has "ears" that mount to the frame.
Thanks
So pull the tranny/t-case and put it somewhere else. Drop the clutch and flywheel out through the bottom of the bellhousing. Right so far? The last sentence you are losing me though. On my truck it looks like there are a pair of forward motor mounts and a set of rearward bellhousing(not motor) mounts.
I gotta say there is a lot to like about this truck but having to pull the clutch assembly and flywheel just to detach the bellhousing from the engine seems pretty silly. You will have to assembly the clutch inside the bellhousing on reverfse if nothing else which seemms like it will add clearance issues to the job. I can see an advantage to having a detachable bellhousing from the tranny but it should be just as easy to detach the bellhousing from the motor in my opinion.
Thanks
