I'm looking to trade up my Microbus for something that I can camp in and hit the trails in. I sold my pop top HJ45 and I'm looking for another diesel - really want to find a HJ75 or a nice Tacoma double cab.
This bus has been with me for around five years. It runs great and is original (besides the lowered business which is how it came to me). Paint is 90% original and there is little rot - if you know buses (especially on the east coast) this is a rarity. The only issues would be under the cargo doors rocker which is pretty common. Drivers side is good. No big dents or cave-in nose. Details below:
- Jackpoints - good
- Doglegs - good
- Front, passenger wheel well arch - pin hole rust on top portion - under seat bottom. Neutralized with phosphoric acid and cold galvanized.
- Rocker under double doors - has half dollar holes that have been long neutralized. If looking to restore, I'd replace. But fine as it is - you only see it when the doors are open.
- Nose - not crunched
- Battery tray - good
- Engine - 1600, runs great, starts on first key bump, has the usual vw oil spotting. Do not know the history of this engine.
- Freeway flyer trans shifts fine and has been service with synthetic.
- All electrics work minus horn
- BRM wheels and tires are about 70%
- California sundial camper - original interior. Z-bed, closets and wood cabinets are there.
- Garaged kept
- New urethane shift bushing - shifts like a Porsche (914)
- Missing door panels
- OG interior in decent shape - missing table and rear facing seat. Z-bed, closets in decent shape
- Non walk through bulkhead.
- OG paint on 95% of bus / 5% is primer from a tree damage repair long ago. To do this, they cut into the overhead console. I know where to get donor panel if interested - it never really bothered me.
- Patina for days but very little rot - Nothing structural under it.
-Body panels straight with no major dents or dings
- High beam switch is out
- Brakes are original drums - plan your stops
- Brand new shocks up front which make the ride solid and secure.
- No overriders on front bumper - no rear at all
- Keys work all locks
- Clean As a whistle GA title.
- All glass good - all jalousie windows are greased and working
- Deluxe trim and rear jail bars
- Original first year 12 volt
- One year only 1967 block off plate. Hidden AUX in stereo hidden under the parcel tray that sounds good.
- taken on long 500 mile trips with no problems
- rides, shifts, stops as good as any 46 year old bus would in my humble opinion.
That's about it really. Please let me know if you have a nice expedition camping rig. Again, I'm really looking for a 70 series to camp in, but would entertain anything diesel and ready to trail.
