Well I thought I was making good progress, until I wasn’t. For reference, my project is a ‘66, but I replaced the front axle with a ‘76. Putting in new 3.70 ring/pinion from Nitro gears. Front diff going together just fine. Disassembled the rear and discovered that instead of nuts/bolts holding the rear ring on, it had threaded holes and bolts went straight into that to mount. Also found it was 9.25” in diameter.
I thought all the diffs were the same, clearly they are not. Did a quick search and found a thread from a few years back noting the same discovery.

@gwalt584 stated he then found information on Cruiser Outfitters website that answered his question. I went there and found that I could buy the special nuts/bolts but it stated that pre ‘69 carriers would need to be upgraded.
Went to their tech page and don’t see any info on what the carrier upgrade needs to be.
So my question is can i just put the 9.5” ring onto the ‘66 carrier with the new nuts and bolts that CO sells? Or do I need to buy a ‘69+ carrier?
Any input would be appreciated.

Ring Gear size
I have two set of ring & pinion gears that supposedly are for an FJ40. Both ring gears have 37 teeth and the pinion has 9 = 4.11. Both have 12 mounting holes that match each other. This is the question: one ring gear measures approximately 9.25" side to side and the other measures 9.5". Was...
