Hello you guys,
With the help of many on this forum, especially " My Wife Says No FJ " I was able to come up with a workable color for my 1962 FJ40 ROOF and BEZEL ( and body also ). MY WIFE S.N.FJ was kind enough to send along info on color cards that matched his early 60's FJ40 roof. I in turn had samples made from info he provided and decided the perfect match was on the TOP LEFT SIDE of the Card PICTURED BELOW where is says "60's ROOF WHITE FJ40". PLEASE NOTE that all the colors on that card are samples of potential early cruiser roof colors except for where it mentions Lily White. I came to realize a bunch of things during this process but one thing to NOTE: Cygnus White ( which is on the card in picture ) was NOT the color of ALL the early roof colors, maybe none. That is yet to be determined. I know there has been a bunch of great work done by alot of MUD members over the years. I am just adding my 2 cents based on what I just found out. ALSO attached for whomever needs the info is a picture of the FORMULA PPG for FJ40 " LILY WHITE " T-403 # 1. During my research I found out there were two LILY WHITE formula's and I am positive that the early cruisers were painted with both, causing me some confusion. The # 2 formula has alot more sandy yellow in it as you can see in the picture. I was able to dig out a very NICE sample piece of steel revealing my original paint ( that the hunter did not get to with his blue brush ) as a sample for my paint mixer friend. Big thanks to Chuck at Temecula Valley Paint for his time and effort that went into assisting me with getting roof, bezel and body color correct on my 1962 restore. I posted a pic below of him after getting permission. Thanks Chuck. His Formula, based on my clean Cruiser part that was hidden in the Barn for 50 years basically, was a success and a perfect match to the LILY WHITE T-403 # 1. The number 1 formula was NOT popping up on his computer here in CALIFORNIA, only the more " yellow, sandy color " number 2. So, a clean cruiser part was needed, one showing good clean, non faded original paint. Thank God I found it buried in my cruiser AND I can tell you guys that the color formula is completely accurate, very clean sample. I hope some of my efforts will help others with their early year cruisers. As mentioned, mine is a 1962. Any questions regarding any of these details regarding, ROOF, BEZEL, BODY just let me know. I spent a bunch of time and a little bit of money on working out these samples. It was worth it though. I'll check my last early hard top I got a few years back but I think it may have been painted. Only bought the vehicle to get the original PTO that fits the early three speed transfer case.
