I have 159,000 miles on my 99. Want to prep it for the spring, summer travel season. Nothing is wrong...Just did a 1000 mile road trip and it ran like a top! However, I planning on taking it to my good friend who is a mechanic to have him do a once over...What should I have done? Anything? Preventative?

I have changed fuel filter, spark plugs, transmission fluid exchange, radiator flush, diffs flushed, tb and maf cleaned, two new cv boots, all in the last 30,000 miles...

So far...I'm thinking:

-replace key shaft/ignition
-radiator flush

????????

Ideas? Thanks much

I have about the same miles on mine. I'm planning to perform "preventative maintenance" on the ignition shaft too. I'm also going to rebuild the starter with some new contacts and plunger.

All of the above are good places to start. I dont see where you listed Transfer Fluid change.

Also pick up a spare coil pack - good to have one or two on your travels.

I changed my pre-cat 02 sensors as a more "preventative" item and saw a slight bump in MPG. 155k and they were still originals...

Starter (if you are really looking for a way to kill a weekend), T, coils, and a standard 40k service and you are good.

Thanks for all the feedback...the starter was replaced by Toyota at 80,000 miles...However, still might look at that...Forgot about 02 sensors...

Much appreciated!

Mike
