He says it is the most expensive Lexus vehicle. Guess he forgot about the other expensive lexus in our garage. 600hL.

Otherwise, good review.

Maybe he was saying that for effect. No one thinks of these vehicles when they think of the flagship of Toyota/Lexus.

I liked the review, I could feel his enthusiasm - I share the same passion but his was more focused on the offroad nature of the beast. I am more concerned about its road manners and its reliability (I do care about the offroad nature but not my first priority). After owning enough german cars in my life, I have finally tired of the high maintenance vehicle and expect manufacturers to have the highest level of quality. If the manufacturer doesn't invest in the design of the vehicle to make sure it is robust and reliable, why should I purchase their piece of junk? I am a product of the 90s and back then we would marvel at the quality of engineering. Now people marvel on the look of the plastic exterior rather than how well the car holds up. Mercedes and BMW have ruined everything they used to stand for and Toyota who were the butt of all jokes have become the new standard for quality of engineering.

I agree, the new front end on the LX is hideous, including the entire lineup. Seriously, one of the worst front end designs I've seen in years. I have yet to meet anyone personally, that likes it, including my wife who loves Lexus but would not buy the newer models be issue of the front end. The design team should be :ban:

Absolutely love the new design. As a result, we swapped out 3 of our cars, and added three with the new design. RCF, GSF and new LX were added to garage this year.

If you look at the sales numbers of the new design, they are flying off the lots.

Would be happy to meet you in person, so you know at least one person in real life that likes the new design :D

I've come to accept the current front end design of Lexus, but it seems out of place on a 200 series (even if the things unlikely to get its 20" wheels dusty on a fire road). I will say I even like the grill lines on some of the sportier cars in their stable; however, I question how well they'll age. Whereas it seems the LC in the driveway, similar to the Sea Dweller on my wrist, will continue to age much more gracefully. But to each his own...

I can't knock Lexus, they always make the top ten list. :D

Top 10 great cars with unfortunately ugly looks
The list does bring up a good point, the fifth gen 4Runners do look like they've been hit by an ugly stick. Seems the Toyota designers may have had a one night stand with the Lexus designers. Nevertheless the front end would seem more capable of venturing offroad unscathed than the GX or LX...

it looks like Lexus sold 2,903 '16 LXs vs 1886 '15 LX for the Jan thru July period. So buying public seems to like current iteration better vs the previous one.

For comparison, sales of LCs are up by 500 vehicles from 1,473 to 1,960 for the respective period (and I presume typical Mudder prefers redesigned LC to LX). So it seems market votes favorably on LX design language at least up to this point.....

Not a fan of the styling on the new model. I can't get over that front end - with the 2008 to 2015 models, the design is simple and clean, and the partial spindle grille is reasonably sized, but for the 2016 model, they decided to make the grille absurdly large and overstyled the entire thing. Add the ridiculous 21" wheels and an ugly D pillar that unnecessarily cribs from the QX, and it's 7,000 dollars more expensive base price than the 2013 model was for all that.

But, styling is subjective and to each his own.

To me the vehicle is so much better looking without the huge, trapezoidal grille:

Just like people trade in women as they age, same can be done with Land Cruisers/LX....

I like that the 4 runner allows you to buy two face.

The limited is the horrendous ugly one for old people, and the TRD PRO and Trail is STUNNING and gorgeous and so aggressive, love it. If I didn't have an obsession with LC/LX I would get a 4Runner TRD Pro in Orange.

I actually like the way the new LX looks *ducks and runs for cover*

Yes, the grill looks like it could provide the a closer shave then Gillette while reducing irritation. And yes, the front end does look like the Predator in vehicle form but its unique. There's really nothing on the road like it and it looks much better in person than it does in photos. It looks more luxurious. People seem to like it as well, the increase in sales backs this up.

Disclaimer: I also was the owner of a 5th gen 4runner so maybe I don't have good taste in vehicle design.

Everybody likes different things. If you love what you have...awesome, enjoy it. :steer:
