Found this old thread talking about swaybar drop blocks, coil spacers, and caster issues.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=13181&highlight=spacers

OME medium kit just arrived and I'm looking for some input....

I was planning on adding 15mm worth of spacers up front (no bull bar)...

1. Is the additional 15mm in the front more than the OME bushings can correct for?

2. Is the additional 15mm enough to cause the need for swaybar drop blocks?
(thread mentions swaybar mount being ripped off as a side effect of using Mr. G 1 inch
spacers)

3. Will the 15mm spacers affect how the bushings are aligned?

From my search results (searched title only) the above thread seemed to be the only one that discussed the need for swaybar drop blocks if spacers are used.

Well there Mr. Brilliantnot, perhaps you need to wait a little bit till folks have a chance to read your often repeated question.

Ask a question near the end of the work day for some and it means you have to wait.

So please step to the back of the line. :flipoff2: :princess:

I think you will be close to not having enough caster, but it seems that everyone of these trucks is a little different. You will just have to give it a try. If you are going to wheel it, I would do the swaybar drop brackets.

OK :princess:  Apparently not that often as a search of swaybar, spacer, or caster failed to answer my question regarding the use of a medium OME and 15 mm worth of spacers. Of course, I only searched titles only so not only am I Mr. Brilliantnot but I'm a lazy arse as well. %$#@^

MoJ,

The purpose of lowering the sway bar with the drop blocks in front and the longer brackets in the rear is to avoid the driveshaft dropping down and hitting the sway bar. The driveshaft drops down when the axle drops down. The axle drops as far as the shocks will let it (basically.)

Therefore, you need the front drop blocks and longer rear brackets when you are running longer than stock shocks. (e.g. OME "L" shocks.)

Lift and spacers have nothing to do with it.

Your answer is, in part, why I brought up the subject. The post I listed cites the need for the drop blocks if spacers are added but I'm having trouble imagining how increasing the height of the coil would allow the axle to drop any further. Wonder why some folks are convinced spacers create the need for a swaybar drop?

Thanks for the info.

I have 15mm packers front and 20mm packers rear with 850/863 springs. I have L-shocks, and sway bar drop blocks from Slee. The rig is not loaded with any accessories so the lift is 4-inches above stock this way. No driving or alignment issues. Very happy I added the trim packers.

Jason, the swaybar attaches to the frame so it will only extend so far on the articulated attachments. As you increase the spring height you push the axle and the driveshaft further away from the frame. With longer shocks your axle can now drop much further than the stock setup - swaybar included. Thus under "droop" now the swaybar - still in its stock location - will get whacked by the driveshaft since it is solidly fixed to the xfer case and the front driveshaft. Lowering your swaybar with Christo's or some home-brewed drop blocks doesn't interfere with its intended fxn for on-road driving and now your front driveshaft won't hit while off road. Make sense?
