most Warn winches I looked at need over 400A at full load. that would be about 5kW. Way too much.
At no load you are in the 50-100A range.

Plus the 12V outlet on many of these generators is rated way less than full nominal power for amperage limitations reasons..... I'm guessing the outlets are rated at 15A or 30A...?

I don't think you're gonna do much with a gen on this one...

The reason is amps times volts equal watts.

So a 2000watt gen at 120 volts is 16 amps

At 12 volts(2000 watts) the gen is 166 amps. Too much for the wiring and coils in the small gen.

So they put out high watts, but only at high volts.

Any appliance that runs with higher volts uses less amps...

But we pay for watts used in a month. Not amps.

Gold boy,I believe the 12 volt circuit on these generators(is yours the inverter series) is only rated at 8.3 amps max,so sorry not enough for a winch..

Wait a minute, how will you even use a 120vac generator to run a 12vdc winch? Regardless of the capacity of the gen, you're mixing apples and oranges! These Honda gen has the 12 vdc battery charging option which isn't the same as running a 12vdc appliance.

Now, if you're considering a 120vac winch....!
