I grew tired of USB adapters to power most everything commonly used while traveling - so I wanted to clean it up a bit.

I started by popping out the 12v outlet in the middle of the console. You can reach through the ashtray to push through, then disconnect the plug.

Next, pop the whole face out to access everything else. There will be a small 12v light that powers the ring around the outlet. Then you will also disconnect, and toss to the side.

I wired up a small connector cable using single male and female flat plugs. One end for the Blue Sea USB outlet, and the other for the factory plug. The ground will require some trimming to fit in the plug - but don't trim too much.

For the plug to illuminate, I used a blue sea indicator light, but will likely go to a green SMG LED bulb since I don't think it will be bright enough to give a glow to the console area. Drill a hole above the outlet if you'd like to do the same.

You can then trim the outlet housing just enough to slide in the USB outlet. I used a sharp pocket knife.

Insert outlet and plug in the connectors, and test for polarity/correct hookup.

Viola, you now can toss your USB adapter(s)!

All in, it cost $20, and took just under an hour.

You can also spend another $20 for this handy outlet via Amazon that gives you two more USB's and another 12v plug. I use this area to power my handheld CB.

To top it all off, I have another mini inverter rates for 150w for small chargers, accessories, etc that do not have a 12v option (camera charter, battery charger, etc. also found on Amazon.
