12HT stalling

My HJ61 does this too. Has done it since Day 1. I upped the idle a bit, that stopped it from stalling out completely. From the # of people experience this issue, it sounds like a flaw in the design of the engine. I'm guessing that it related to the timer as it seems to sort of 'catch' itself as the RPM drops. Perhaps this is part of the reason for the 'fast idle' when cold because it doesn't do it to me while that is active. But that shuts off after a minute or two and the problem re-appears until the engine is completely warmed up. THis leads me to beleive that maybe it is a sluggish timer that moves a bit faster onc its warmed up and the grease/oil is less viscous.

Anyway, after bumping the idle up by 100RMP or so a few years ago, its gone away and hasn't bothered me since..

Sounds like good theories.

The colder it is the worse it gets. At a cold start below 0 degrees celsius it starts for at 1/10 of a second then dies immediately because the rpm drops to much. I have to restart it 5-10 times if I don't help it with the throttle.

Count me in too,i bumped the idle up and fixed it,but it still shows symptoms when the air con is running.
I like BJ42's theory.
It sounds like low mile and high mile trucks will do it so is it wear or just a minor flaw in the design?

Oh right, I forgot, starting in the cold, I have to give it some throttle or else it dies. It's done that since I've owned it. I guess the RPM sort of bucks up and down and it puffs black smoke likely to over-injecting then under-injecting rapidly.

It's weird but I'm used to it..
