hi all
I can get a 12HT from a coaster bus. I gues the fundimentaly it will be the same engine as a HJ61 and if it does not hav AC pumps and stuff, at least the mountings holes should be there ? RIGHT???
Any major differences in the turbo, manifolds, IP ?? any good reason NOT to buy it??
Guru's please impart your great knowlage!!

If it quacks like duck,it's a duck. I can't see any fundamental reasons why not. I think the 12ht in a Coaster is a rare combo,so the only way will be to compare part # on toyodiy.
The other diesels that come in dynas, coasters are very much the same as landcruisers, sometimes the air intake is angled differently and some have single pulleys on the alternator and all are 24v AFAIK.

OK, checked the engine out and it looks OK. and quite complete, except that it has a monster AC pump as the coaster bus does not have opening windows..
The head is off and away for testing???? The bores have a bit of surface rust but should clean up to about 91.75mm.

Do the after market Alfin pistons come in bigger oversizes compared to Toyota who only offer .5mm over?? I don't want to sleave.
Also what is the alowable piston protrusion for the 12HT??

On trying to down load the manual from the stickey above, it wanted an extra viewer downloaded, which eventually wanted my credit card details to veryfy my age???? Whats the story here??

Regards

Agreed.

The only model I can find right now is one started in the month of October 1986 for the GENERAL market and that's model HB31R-MRX1. (I don't know when this model run finished because the document I'm looking at was printed in 1987 and it was still going then.)

It has a 5-speed manual transmission, was right-hand drive and was sold as an incomplete vehicle (that is, without seating).

With 0.50 oversize pistons, the bore diameter limit is specified as 91.73.

(Piston dia 91.440 - 91.470)

Can't you aim to stay within that?

I have a handwritten note for piston protrusion of .53 to .68 but as yet I can't confirm that.

Ha ha.

They take you for a fool obviously. The site wasn't based in Nigeria or New Zealand?

Hi all
If you bang Coaster bus into Toyo.diy any time between 1985 and 1990 Japan, you will get a 12HT and 5 speed option. Aparently a lot went to Zimbabwe but I can't find any further information.

As mentioned, a lot of extra pulleys and a monster AC compressor and just one of those lovely air ducting pipes crossing over the tappet cover, so I assume the air filter is on the left of the engine.
The gearbox is a 5 speed, but not a H55F it is shorter and fatter with strange linkages for a remote shifter, although the Coaster has a floor shift. Obviously I don’t want the gearbox unless I get it for nothing.
Anyway, as the politicians say, negotiations are at a sensitive stage, I can make a call on the pistons but will be taking a chance on the bottom end condition and still have not seen the head and still don’t know the exact reasons why he pulled it off the road.

After my father in law retired from teaching he drove a coaster for another school in Adelaide for years. That one actually had a 12h, without a turbo.

The coasters are all over the Caribbean and I've seen them in central America but I've never seen one in the US.

that coster bus is just cool! that would make a great RV!

Hi Gengis, did this work? I have an option too to install a coaster 12HT version...but wanted to check with other diesel heads on this site first.
