Fueled up,did 306klms of dirt roads and bit in the bush,used 37.3 ltrs.
About 12.5 per 100 i think.
Got roof rack,lifted,285 x16 tyres.
Better then expected.

I just did 537ks for 65lts, 12.1lts/100km which equates to 23.35mpg.
I was sitting on 120-130kph for most of the trip.

Last time I checked my consumption it was around 10.2l/100km but that was mostly on highway (80-110km/h)... On allround driving i usually get between 11.5l-13l, thats with 33's and 3" exhaust (basicly freeflow), std boost and fuel... You could always try hammering your car a bit to loosen up the carbon buildup in the engine and drop your consumption a bit, also switch to synthetic engine oil (I use 5w-50 on mine)... That should lower the consumption a bit...

Last tank came up at 11.0l/100km... around 370km's of highway and 80km's of commuting and short distance driving...

Not much better even in stock form. I don't know if the auto sucks fuel economy but I can guarantee is sucks power.

Thanks you all very much for your replies, there has been some really good info supplied and very varied results. I have made the decision to put my pump in to get done but it will have to wait until I get the coin together. Once I get her done I'll run some comparisons and report back on the results and the rebuilders feedback..... So stay tuned!!!

That is pretty impressive for a 2H !
Ive just done a little road trip this week.

Used 81L to do 655km so that is about 12.4L/100K

I cruised at 95 - 100kph most of the time, I know that if I go faster than 100kph the fuel usage goes up a lot.

If I was to drive at 120+ kph I would use something like 15L/100k...

Even locked up an auto is running an internal hydraulic pump and has a lot more drag than a manual.

And autos usually have a better overdrive ratio too. Certainly the A440F compared to the H55F.
All in all, I think an auto still comes out ahead on the highway, so long as the torque converter is locked up.

Someone on the 60 series forum once posted his mileage, first of the auto and then later switched to a manual. Over many thousands of miles, and the auto was slightly better.

Yeah, I thought the same Rosco.... Even Mr Toyota said so in the FSM, that's why I didn't put it in to be rebuilt originally but now I'm not too sure.

mun60, I'd love those figures. I dropped short on my way to WA, 5km out of Norseman be be exact . Luckily I had another 40 lt of diesel on board in Jerry's but thought I'd be right and have at least 100 k or 20 - 30 lts in reserve as per my calculations.

Actually here are the real figures (P.S I have a 173 lt tank) : 1235km... run out of diesel, now if I got 12 per 100 that would be 1435.9km out of the same tank (200.9km in reserve or 24 lt)

If I was to drive at 120+ kph I would use something like 15L/100k...

Don't forget I have a Fairey O/D on a H55 and a 12HT turbo running 15lb boost.
At 120kph I am only at 2200rpm.

Yes, it reads slightly less than actual travel speed. Actual speed 100km, GPS speed 98km. It's a difference but it's not excessive.

I'll have to setup a camera to know for sure although I cannot see anything behind whilst I drive but that is not the best indicator either.

Actually it was Ceduna to Noresman But I have a long range tank. I dropped short 5km out of Noresman but I had another 40lt on board. I had run the figures for 12 to the hundred and hadn't worked out the consumption since I left Melbourne.... That's my bad. Then whilst I was following the Fuel gauge down I knew I was close to out but still thought I'd make it. I didn't make it and I know it's not good to run the system dry.... I guess It's a lesson learnt the hard way. The most concerning thing is the amount of carbon build up I found in the cylinders once I got home and put the injectors in to get done. I thought it was too much especially since I only rebuilt the engine not long ago.

I have an HJ61 12HT 5speed manual, 3" exhaust with 33" BFG AT's and the best I get is 12L/100K. Results are varied depending on type of driving from 12.5-15. Load doesn't really seem to affect mileage, but trailer, gear on roof, sitting in town traffic does. I'd like to try to slow down on the highway and see mileage but am usually doing 120 (which is slow here in Alberta!) I'm happy with the mileage considering the best a new $36K Tacoma does is 22mpg as well.

(Edit, just put on 4500Km so more accurate results.)
13L/100Km highway, full size roof rack, normal load.
18L/100Km highway, 4 passengers, 6600lbs weight. 16" load on roof rack with no fairing.
23L/100Km offroad dry trails, rtt, recovery gear, fridge, food and camping stuff for one person.
Using Rotella T 5W40 oil.

Well......

Firstly, for people looking at this thread in the future, I am posting my preliminary results. There is nothing worse and I know when you research something not to find a solution even when the OP said they'll provide a solution.

OK..... So I took it to a reputable diesel pump specialist and here's what they found: Timing: way too advanced...... wait for it......... 25 BTC. Fuel....... Way too much. After timing it correctly they got the EGT's up to 600 deg C pretty easy. In fact they guys got it up that easy that they thought the pyro was showing it in deg F. Mind you it never got to that before, the highest I got was 556 and that was up a decent long climb, that's with the old timing. As for the hard cold starts: They said that it was a governor adjustment if I remember correctly. They adjusted it and told me to monitor it and bring it back if it stalls again on a cold start. They also said the pump looked "Brand new inside. Either it's been rebuilt or it has very low Km" At least that's refreshing to hear.

So......... Fxxxing lying a**hole c**ts at Turbo engineering in Thomastown, Victoria Australia. I asked for a stock tune after a rebuild, I was very specific and clear on several occasions. I said "Keep it stock" What I posted above is what I got. If you don't want to get ripped off and shafted like I did, don't take your car to them. Apparently it's not the first time they fiddle with cars in ways shouldn't. They are also not cheap either.

Anyway, stay in tune to see what results in fuel economy I yield as I'll post them in the coming weeks.

12.31 LT to 100km, no extra weight, 30% city 70% Highway driving and that is with a pretty heavy right foot. Since the 2nd tune the drivability is like night and day from what it was beforehand, the engine sounds completely different also.

Ive just done a few days towing a box trailer weighing about 1000kg. I was being gentle and managed 14.3L / 100Km
If you look at my earlier post you can see that usually I use about 12.5L / 100km.

When I had my manual hj61 with standard 16" skinny tyres I always got 11.5lt/100 around town never above 80kmph - stock truck, 480000kms. Used to return 14/100 towning the boat.

My auto HJ61 has become my DD it has 3" exhaust, old man emu suspension, Kaymar rear bar, arb bull bar and side rails. 200lt tank and 33x10.5 R15 BFG KM2.

Filled it up for the first time in since buying her 4 yrs ago and was shocked by the poor fuel consumption 19L/100. Only has 260K. I am now saving for a G turbo upgrade.

That's 19.6 US mpg. That's about the same as my Canadian HJ60.
