Troopies are a lot less aerodynamic than 60s and mine isn't standard but 14L/100 is :)

What makes you think that? I would have thought they are much of a muchness.
One's taller,the other is wider

I wouldn't say a 60 was as wider as a troopy is taller? I'm sure someone could dig up some dimensions and prove me wrong though :)

My 12 ht is a daily driver, probably about 40 km a day commuting to work. My experience previous to this truck is all with 1hz work troopy's, love em, but if you add roof racks, solar panels, big bull bar, drawers, etc they do Start to chew the juice, but these are fully laden work vehicles operating in harsh conditions. I'm not sure if I can offer any solutions to your higher fuel usage! All I can think is maybee your timing is out or the pump is not set right. Does it blown much smoke? Do you always fill up at the same servo, long shot I know, but I've found one up here that has dodgy bowsers. Running out of idea's, but I will run it by the old man he might gave a few ideas, he's been trying to get better economy out of his 1kz te hilux to no avail, does the engine chew much oil?

I thought the standard tank was 75ltrs!!!!????
Well known fact the 60"s body was developed in a wind tunnel!
The 75 series they got the sum blokes to stand in front bent over, dacks down, when
they farted an engineer threw sum flour in the air and called it good.

Fuel tank is definately 90liters on diesel models atleast (hj60/61)...

When I had mine I was always impressed. 270,000kms, manual, 31 x 10.50 all terrains and I never cruised over 2500rpm so usually 100 - 110 kph which often returned 10L - 11L per 100kms and usually that number was under 10.5. I never got under 10 but never really went over 11. The injectors have never been looked at but I knew they needed attention as the truck stunk if you were behind it and it puffed a little more than it should. 12HT's are funny though, it seems some return poor mileage and some return great milage.

I've noticed my 1HZ gets worse at around 11L - 12L per 100kms. Even with that however I usually go 600kms - 700kms with 100kms worth of fuel reserve before I fill up so I can only complain so much.

I usually use about 12.5L per 100k, that's with 33 inch tires big roof rack and loaded up on the highway, I try to keep the revs down and cruise at about 2000rpm

If I drive really gentle I on a good trip I can get down to just over 10L per 100km!

Distances are measured with GPS...

I have a 88-89 4:11 ratio H55F HJ 61 with 285 - 75 R16 (32.5") with close to 300,000kms

Fuel setting stock

28- 32mpg combined driving 1500- 2500rpm , sure I will load it down and goose it up to 3000rpm every now and then:clap:

I dont have the overall body measurements, but the chassis rails and body mount points are approx 50mm -170mm wider to take the wider 60 series body.
I think the overall axle width on a 60 is 70mm wider as well

mun60 - I had it dyno tuned not too long ago, they done the fuel and timing then. I haven't noticed any smoke, i think that I'll have to set up a camera at the back to see for sure. I usually do fill up at the same servo but I also have changed it around and the figures are about that high 13's per 100. As for oil, it uses bugger all per change, haven't measured but it's not much.

It's interesting to see all the figures. There is a fair fluctuation between them too. It seems that 14's is the at the higher end and 10 - 12's are the about the average. There are so many variables to that though. Prado t is getting 28 - 32 MPG's. That's just over half of what I use if I've run the figures correctly. (44 - 51 Km per 3.8 Lt) It seems too good to be true.

. There are so many variables to that though.

True, wide tyres, roof racks and bullbars all suck fuel.
Just putting the canvas canopy on my 75 series ute pushes the fuel consumption up about 1-2 litres per 100 because it sits 4-5 inches higher than the roof.
Onwers need to state whether theirs is auto or manual ,tyre size and anything that may effect the consumption.

The auto only effects fuel consumption around the town,on the freeway it locks up and is rigid like a manual.

Even locked up an auto is running an internal hydraulic pump and has a lot more drag than a manual.

How much is a "a lot more" expressed as a % when its locked up?

As a % of what?
For total vehicle drag it can be as high as 10%. Compared to drag in a manual gearbox it could be 3-4 times higher.

Some more modern auto gearboxes shut down recirculation pumps to save drag when locked up in gear. But they still need to run the hydraulic pump to keep clutches engaged.

.

Im not sure. You used the the term "a lot more" so you must know where it applies on a A440 12HT transmission.

That's about what I get. Any time, any conditions, 17mpg.

I've been similarly unimpressed - expecting to get the 20+ that some people claim. I've just learned to live with it.:meh:

I'm assuming that since you're in Oregon, you're using U.S. measurements. One thing to consider is that most of the diesel folks on here are reporting their fuel consumption in imperial units. If you convert your 17 mpg (U.S.) to imperial, you end up with 20+ mpg! Just barely though.

If you use litres/100klms you can talk to the rest of the world;)

How about some graphs?

I've been recording my fuel consumption for several years now using an iPhone app called Road Trip. I record every fill-up and as a result have some pretty good data.

My '62 with a 12HT:
33" BFG A/T
Full length roof rack
2.5" OME
15lb boost and fuel at stock setting.
H55F, 4.10 diff
70mph (112.6kph) = ~2550RPM my typical max hwy speed

Once in a while I'll toss in a quart of veggie oil and I think my consumption improves a little for tank or two.

These results are with mixed driving. The worst consumption, clearly seen, was from pulling a trailer on the highway.

Engine probably has 100k more than the graphs show. I just recorded my odometer reading (adjusted for the 33" tires, of course).

I have 35s on mine with 5 spd trans I have never done a calculation mathmatically but I do know it gets the same mileage as my BJ42 with a 5 spd and my 44 with a 4 spd which is in the high 20 miles per gallon and it uses aprox a third of the fuel my gasser 62 uses.
Gasser 65 bucks a week.
Diesel 25 bucks a week same distance traveled.

Ive got a hj61 it runs 35s now has a h55f use to have an auto fuel consumption is around mid 12s take the roof rack off its in the mid 11s it revs at 2200 at 100kms its better around town but not by much
