got everything hooked up today. vacum resorvoir, throttle cable and vsv for the transfer and also the air filter assembly. went to turn the key, the starter solenoid activates but does not turn the starter? so i pulled the starter off because it sounded like the teeth were hitting the flywheel. i checked the starter outside of the truck with a battery and ground and it works. i also pulled the teeth out wedged a rubber hose in it to see if it was lining up with the flywheel teeth and it does. put everything back on properly and it tried to turn the engine once. tried it again and just the solenoid fired? any suggestions. anyone

make sure the starter is grounding properly when mounted to the bell housing. If needed, clean up the contact faces with sandpaper. Also, if there isn't one already there, mount a ground strap between the bell housing/tranny and the frame some where in that area.

ill pull it off this afternoon and try it again. hey Gehn which fuel line is the supply? if your looking at it fromthe passenger fender is it the one to the right or left? maybe my push pump is bad but i cant get the system primed.

why not .. ?

faulty primer .. buy a cheap fuel pump and install on the diesel line to do the primer more easy ...

BTW I ran a ground from my main batt to the starter ..

just stopped messing with it got fed up. i took the starter to the shop today and got it tested it works fine, go back home install new battery cable ends, sand the bellhousing where the starter bolts up sand the starter for a clean connection and nothing. recheck all the grounds they are good. i rolled the truck once and it tried to start it actually turn over quite a bit but never got itt to start. now i am clueless.dont know what else to do. anyone know anything?

As said in previous posts, make sure that the starter is grounded. You will need a heavy ground from the bellhousing or starter bolt to the frame, and make sure the battery is well connected to the frame. If you can, post pictures of how you did this, it will help us diagnose it.

And, as tapage mentioned, you can get a cheapo electric in line fuel pump that can be used to prime the system. You can also use a brake bleeder pump on the bleed nipple of the filter....just apply vacuum until fuel appears and then close the bleed screw. It takes very little fuel to just one injector to actually get it to run....rough, but it's enough to get it going until you can bleed at the injectors.

For simplicity sake, disconnect the vacuum shutter at the intake until you have gotten it to run. If you wired the vacuum wrong, the motor won't run or it will run for a second, then shut off. And....as warm as it is out right now, you don't need to glow, but you can do that too for a first run.

Double check all your power supplies, and try grounding the starter to the frame without it being installed and try to turn it with the key. Was the starter rebuilt? The shop that did mine painted the whole thing when they done and it was enough to be a problem. Make sure the starter mounting surfaces are clean too.

In regards to the fuel issue, I am using a universal carter in line pump back at the tank to help push fuel through the filter to primary pump, but i ran it without one for a while. Once the primary has been primed, you will probably need to bleed the injectors.

just trying to get the starter issue resolved first before i prime the fuel system. i would like for the starter issue to work properly before i keep going.

just saw this post...did you get it figured out? I don't recall the HJ's having a fuel return all the way back to the tank. IIRC, the overflow get recirculated back in upstream of the primary pump. At the tank, the line closest to the frame is the supply line.

the starter is a brand new toyota starter for 12 volt 12HT. Panoramic thinks that my solenoid wire is to thin and doesnt carry enough power. but it has turned over.

found out what was wrong. the ignition wire was to slim, wasnt pulling enough from the battery. will be using a ford starter relay. found out another probem, my water pump is froze.it will not turn. and i cant get my fuel system primed. put about 7psi in the tank but wll not come up to the filter.

Water pump won't turn? Are you sure? Hate to ask it that way, but I ran the motor as it was in the crate. Was the belt not installed in the crate?

On another note, I have never heard of someone putting pressure to the tank. How exactly are you doing that? Have you tried using a brake bleeder on the bleed nipple to bring fuel up?

yes i have but fuel will not come to it. and the water pump will not turn. i removed the belt and tried to turn it with my hand and it is stuck alright.

ordered the water pump from 4wheelauto $217. it should be here friday also waiting on a primer pump it also should be here this weekend. sunday hopefully is a busy day with pix to come.

also got all the hoses vacum canister and wired the incab switch for the 4wd. probably going to start it tomorrow. this isa ford relay that i got for my starter problem, i would liked to get it wired my tonight or tomorrow

What's the ford starter relay solving? Did the 12v starter you got not come with a relay built in? Or...are you using the relay to trigger the relay on the starter?

Did you get the primer pump today?
