Hey guys, I'm totally new to this so go easy on me -
I've been forum diving for the past two weeks on here and google. I just wanted a second opinion from this awesome community on this; also taking it to a special off road mech here in vancouver BC in a couple of days

the seller has wiggle room and I have dibs on the truck rn -

Front bumper has rust, but I'd be swapping that out also comes with 37s. He said he'll knock around 2k off if i wanted stock rims/tyres

weather seals etc are all in good shape, no cracks in the glass. all electronics work except for passenger side window motor rolls down choppy.
Blows cool and hot.

Minor rust patch on the inside of the door frame ( 2' diameter )

Oil pan sweats ( which i think could be due to oilpan gasket )

I did see oil or some sort of fluid on the bottom end of his engine and by the trans which had me concerened for rear main and head gaskets.
Today his mech said " power steering pump " could be the cluprit of all that fluid and " oil pan gasket " as I mentioned before.

He also did offer to bring the truck to my mech for peace of mind.

So all in all I'm wondering if it's buying between 8-11k (CAD) 5800(USD) - 7800(USD)

Any advice or direction for someone a little lost in the process would help, much appreciated!

someone else posted on this same cruiser last week... search 10k CAD or something like that and you will see varying opinions. I like the way it looks personally.

Nice! i just saw the post ! Appreciate it!

Bring it to your mech to have it checked out. Love to see that rust patch. Is there a spare 37? I think $7800 is a bit high, but not obscene. If it checks out, I'd offer $7000 US.

Start looking in the southern states, you can do better than that. Looking at the picture I can see a number of things under the hood that means work will be required.

Good general rule... Don't let exceptions be considered the rule. Also there are some locations that don't salt the roads and i believe that helps. When i lived in the rust belt you washed under, over and everywhere often when you could during the winter. And you didn't park in garages and let salty snow melt on your car if you could help it.

They don’t rust from the outside in, sure you can wash the crap out of it to prevent surface corrosion but using Krown or Rust Check or similar products will help better.
Body panels always rust from the inside out, unless you treat them every year with the products I mentioned. Even then you will get rust, all you can did is slow it down, do a thorough annual inspection, keep touching up paint on the bottom and top. But you will never stop it🤬

True and it is more important to pressure wash from underneath than get what is on the paint.this includes under the hood. People forget that. If you see rust under the hood there is rust in many other places. I don't care what people say about the new metal compounds. That might work more for body parts but honestly body parts are often the easiest to replace on many vehicles.

What's with all this high mileage talk? High mileage is 400K or more.

I'm usually suspect of the really low mileage cars. Why didn't they drive it? What was wrong with it? The 200K to 300K 80 series trucks usually mean it was suitable to drive long distance, was reliable enough to go that far.

I think that's a bit harsh. You can't look at that one engine bay picture and say work is required. This is why his mech should check it out. But honestly, you'll want to baseline it yourself, so I guess you're right.

Hey DL...i purchased mine not too long ago and the thing I wished mine came with are folders of service history records.
I have been tracking shops to get its history records but being a 93 it is now out of their system.
