If service records are in tact, how much stock do you put into the number of owners? I found one I like but it has been through 3 owners. It also looks as though it was last sold as a Lexus CPO (20k Miles ago).
Condition and maintenance is far more important than number of owners. Generally speaking, a 1 owner car commands a little bit of a premium and something with tons of owners lowers the potential resale value a little, but there are plenty of good reasons why a car can change hands a few times. I've had 46 cars and motorcycles, and I'm in my mid 30s. I rarely keep a car longer than 12 months (it's kind of a side hobby to be honest to keep changing it up), but anything I own is taken care of by only the best shops and with the best materials. My last 200 was bought new by a famous photographer and was sent directly to Slee for extensive mods. He used it for a year, and sold it to a guy in Boulder. He used it for a year, and sold it to me. I put a bunch more money into it at Slee, used it for a year and sold it. Now it's in another owner's hands who is putting more cool mods into it and will use it to explore the world, then I have no doubt he'll sell it in probably less than 2 years. So the truck is on its 4th owner in 4 years, but it's been maintained and built to the highest standards. I would have no concerns buying a truck with a history that makes sense and was taken care of the right way. I'd much rather buy a 4+ owner truck without rust and a good story than a 1 owner truck that abused the hell out of it because they assumed a Toyota lasts forever without any maintenance.
