Am going to look at both of these trucks this weekend and most likely purchase one of them. Looking to fill the void left by my 2000 that I sold a couple of years ago. Planning to use for a DD for at least 3 or 4 years. Can't decide if the 5 speed and updated motor is worth 5k and 50k miles. The 01 is in great shape and the guy is selling for medical reasons. Assume for this question that the 06 is as nice as described. I'm leaning toward the 01.

2001, 155k miles, 10k
2001 Toyota Land Cruiser

2006, 200k miles, 15.9K
2006 Toyota Land Cruiser AWD 4dr SUV In Stanley NC - Mater's Motors

I have a 2002 LC w/ 235K and a 2006 LX470 w/ 195K Miles. LX is faster and rides smoother. LC feels a little more solid and drives more like a truck. Cant go wrong with either choice-all depends on what kind of ride/drive you prefer.

The 01 shows:

"I bought this Land Cruiser Monday (8/22/16) but some personal financial issues have come up. My loss is your gain. The previous owner took very good care of this vehicle and even has service records at his mechanic's shop.
Need to sell ASAP. I have not even registered for a plate yet.".

Not trying to sound paranoid and suspicious, but I would make sure he is not trying to dump this vehicle because it has major problem.

I've spoken with the seller and the guy he bought it from a couple of days ago. There's nothing wrong with it. He has a medical issue that necessitates the quick sale.

I have an 2002 LX470 and love it. But I will mention two factors that might help you go with the LC. With the Land Cruiser you don't have to worry about the AHC system failing (mine still works at 260K but many have had problems). You an also exchange the head unit in the Land Cruiser with a more modern stereo (with Apple Carplay for example) and not be locked into a dated nav unit and stereo. This is because the AC controls are not part of the nead unit like in the 2006 LX. Just a couple of thoughts. Both look like winners.

Grab the 06.

Hah. recognized that grill guard and license plate. saw the '01 on Cars.com earlier today.

"Classic Toyota Land Cruiser. Great condition. 153K miles. Regular service by Toyota Dealership or Certified Toyota mechanic No mechanical or other issues. No torn upolstery. Immaculate interior. I purchased this vehicle 10 years ago as a weekend baseball/hunting truck. My son later drove to high school and college. There are a few dings here and there as you might expect in a 15 year old vehicle. Some paint fading on hood. My son added brush guard, additional front lights and Pioneer stereo iPod compatable with USB port. Carfax shows minor accident in 2002, but no issues during my ownership.

I had an 06 and now I have a 98. I'm actually liking the 98 more since it's geared lower (4.3 vs 3.9:1). I do miss the 5 speed but I don't miss the nav at all.

I was heavily advised to get something with the 5 spd for a DD. An 06 LC goes for 20-25k down here (LX is a bit cheaper and seems to be far more abundant) so I wound up with an 03. I have the 5 spd but no VVTI and a 4.10 rear.

... and the 03 has a Transmission Dip Stick.
After fooling with the sealed transmissions in Isuzu Troopers, I considered that an important attribute. BTW, I have a 4-speed 2002 and while 5-speed should be better I don't have
any qualms with it.

Between those two I think I would go with the 01 if you have to get something ASAP and assuming you can verify the service records. Otherwise, I'd keep looking. Most dealers scare me.

Looks like the '06 is a non-AHC vehicle so he wouldn't have to worry about that, don't see a controller in the usual spot. Not calling you out, just want to help out the OP!

OP: I have an '06 and love it. It is up to you in the end to decide what is right for your situation, but I'd vote for the '06, just be sure the timing belt has been done within the last 10K or so.

Good catch. I did not check that picture of the engine bay out. Thanks for correcting me.

Do you want to upgrade the head unit or are you fine with the stock navigation screen? You cannot change the unit on the newer models

How much do you use bluetooth for your music?

Answer these two and you will know if you should get a 98-02 or a 03-07. I have an 06 as well and the 5speed is nice to have, the nav is handy, and I can play my phone music through a cassette tape

Well I decided to pass on the 01. I entered the VIN into the Toyota website and it was a Massachusetts truck until 2008. Don't want 7 years of salt. May still go look at the 06. It's got full records and a lifetime SC truck.

$15.5 on a 200k 06 is too high

Closer to $11-12k this time of year maybe 1-2k more towards winter

Lots of options to choose from between 150-200k keep looking

I paid 15k for my 03 with 182k in January. There's an 06 here in Asheville with 135k for 24500 right now. All depends on where you live and if you're willing to drive/fly cross country to get something. Mine had impeccable maintenance records and was in excellent condition inside and out. I looked for a year or so off and on before finding the right one and I have yet to see anything better pop up.

Did you end up looking at the 2006? Looks like good Maint. Records. If I was closer I would be looking. From what I've seen in the market it may be a tad overpriced but the Maint schedule was really adhered too. Be interested to hear if anybody took a closer look.

I haven't looked at it yet. I talked to the guy the other day and he said he was firm at 16, which I think is high. I'd probably buy at 15... May look at it tomorrow. It does have excellent maintenance.

I went and drove the 01 and could've had it for 9.5 but it was pretty rough imo.
