100k miles on original O2 sensors?

Mine lasted until 158,000 miles and I am sure because I am the original owner. Guess that I got lucky. BTW I have a 99' LX470.

What happens when the O2 sensors go bad? Right now I'm having trouble with my 98 LC that I think might be the front O2 sensors. After I've been driving for an hour or so I start having trouble accelerating then maintaining speed because the throttle stops responding. Eventually she'll just slow to a stop and I have to pull over and she'll just cut off. The weird part is that I can start her right back up and she'll go fine for a bit. This started happening every once in a while and now is more frequent. My girlfriend was driving her for a couple of weeks and I know she put regular gas in a couple of times when I always put premium in. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it.

Thanks for any help you can provide. Figured I'd run it by you guys before taking it to the stealer.

That would not be the o2 sensors.

They are part of the emissions system and you won't notice a difference when they go bad. You do get a check engine light, but you won't notice much else.

You have a TPS sensor that is bad. Do a search, pretty common on older LC/LX's

Have 115k miles or so and no codes. Original o2 sensors and plugs.

The beast runs like a top and tows well, but the bad news is the 13mpg we seem to get in normal use. (no towing)

What are the odds of improving the mpg with a plug and or 02 sensor replacement?

Thanks,
Pete

Not much based on the board reports. Most report zero change. Might try unselecting the ECT PWR button or a more moderate use of the skinny pedal. ;) Maybe some "Sounds of the Ocean" tapes.

120k is recommended plug change milage. Do you still have the original OEM plugs ? Perhaps they were changed out early for inferior plugs ? If so then I would change them out for the OEM from cruiserdan or Denso. Are you calculating milage correctly and making adjustments for your tires ect...

Classic TPS problem but usually you get a CEL (check engine light) as well. Check your CEL when starting to make sure the bulb is working.Try reading from this thread in the FAQ for more info.

Thanks.

The plugs are due anyway. I'll swap em out and see.

This baby is a mall cruiser. Stock tires, so I assume that the ODO is right, but I'll double check.

This baby is a mall cruiser.

You don't have to admit straight out that its a mall cruiser ! We have 80s guys lurking here thinking about upgrading and want them to feel comfortable. ;)

Try something like "The trucks sees mostly road miles getting to my work sites and family trips to the wilds of "XXXXX" so I've kept the stock tire size."

Subtle, but we'll know what you mean. :D

Oops. Well, it is a mall cruiser when not being used to tow my 32ft closed car hauler... ;)
