Hi, I'm considering selling my great FZJ80 in lieu of a 100 series mainly due to maintenance costs. My FZJ is in great shape, 117k, one owner dealer maintained before me but the repair bills from a great mechanic are getting to me. I love it but it seems these are incredibly complex vehicles. Are the 100's easier to maintain? I know that greatly depends on the vehicles history but I'm asking apples to apples. I'm not a huge offroad guy, easy fire roads, the beach and snow are the reasons I have one. Thanks for any advice.

lots of info here try searching....

My experiences suggest neither is expensive to maintain. That is the whole point of why I own them rather than any other machine available. They are cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, stupid reliable and crazy kewl.

I owned four 80's before my 100 and I agree that it felt like I was always fixing something or having to baby the cooling system on the 80's (except my 3FE). The 100 seems more computerized so I guess that alone could cause some expensive headaches, but so far I'm patting myself on the back for jumping to the 100.

Don't get me wrong, love the 80, just not for my DD.

I have both......I would say they are equally the same or if not really close to each other when it comes to cost of maintenance (to my opinion)...I bought my 80 w/ 125k in 2009 and my 100 w/ 119k 2 mos ago and both one owner trucks and came with stacks of maintenance records. Even with only having the 100 for 2 mos, I feel like it deja vu from when I first got my 80 in doing pm's and that's just because of my OCD in ensuring both are in tip top shape. I really can't compare them as apples to apples since to my opinion they ride differently from each other (again, that's just me).....I love them both though and even considering in getting another 80 or a 100 or maybe even a 62.....I'd say keep them or get them both if you can! :D

It's always going to be expensive paying a mechanic to do all your maintenance. The wealth of info on this site has saved me over $20k? In shop fees! Grab a wrench.... and have both
