Hi Guys,

I am building up a Shorty Prado 90 and need some advise with the transfer case.
Here are the list of Mods:
Engine: 5.3 Litre Vortec with Howell ECU and Loom
Tranny: 100 series manual with full time transfer case
Front Axle: 80 series front crossed with 60 series rear
Rear Axle: 100 Series Full Floater
Front Suspension: 80 Series Radius Arms with King Coilovers.
Rear Suspension: Probably Emu 80mm lift with LTR resevoir shocks.

My problem is that the 100 series T case is activated electronically, I would prefer a more reliable linkage system if this is possible. The reason for this is that this will become a 'Race Truck' of sorts and reliability is key.

Any Ideas?

Cheers

I have no idea to help your question, but make sure you post tons of pictures of the buildup. What can of racing will you be doing ? For high-speed on rough terrain I'd keep the IFS. Also a 100 series rear axle and a 80series fron will have different bolt patterns for the wheels.
Welcome :flipoff2:

Prado Race truck

Hi Denis,

Thanks for the response. The competion that I am building the Prado for is called the Warn ARB Outback Challenge held in Broken Hill Australia, I have competed in the event twice already but as the Navigator so it was high time I put my own truck together. The reason for the soild front axle is for durability, in South Africa it is hard to find and decent IFS front running gear that can take serious abuse. The Challenge is a mixture of speed, navigation, winching, more winching and some serious 4x4ing.

Take a look at the site it is: outback4x4challenge.com

I have changed the 5 stud rear to six stud, there are more wheels availble in 6 stud.

I will be posting some pics soon.

Cheers

Warner .. I have the 2006 Outback DVD and it's simple awesome ..

pretty much turbo diesel engines ( Patrols ) with sold frond and rear axles .. the challenge with the Wal l( literally ) to clim up with winch .. it's awesome !

Glad you like it, we were competed in 2003 and 2005 and had an awesome time, things are changing over there with lighter rigs and bigger engines being the order of the day, here's to the Prado and 5.3 litre Vortec.

Cheers

Vortec Hilux on 80 series Chassis

Hi,

I have attached a picture of our Hilux that we took over in 2005 to Oz. It has a 5.7 Vortec NV4500 with NP205 transfer, Dana 60 rear, Dana 44 reverse cut front and the best of all the 80 series chassis.

Check it out. D1020119.jpg
