Hey everyone, wanted to see what your thoughts are on this ticking noise coming from my 100 series.

I've attached a youtube video of it down below.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bc1EIEukDkc

A few things; it seems to have started somewhat recently, or at least I've noticed it somewhat recently. I've driven about 800 miles so far with the tick, and towed a trailer a good bit of that.

It hasn't gotten louder since I've noticed it.

I've replaced the spark plugs and checked that they are tight.

I pulled the oil filter and cut it open. There wasn't anything super concerning, nothing that would make me think I had driven 800 miles with rod knock. There was some stuff in the oil, but it seemed to have been some sort of crusty gunk, not metal, and only a tiny bit. (No way to know without pulling the pan or tearing it down I guess?

I've listened to each cylinder up top with a stephoscope, and it sounds good (Not really sure what to be listening for honestly).

Does anybody else have ideas of what it could be?

Hard to tell from the video but can hear something. I would check your exhaust manifolds they are a known failure point and cause ticking noise due to exhaust leak. You could also try running thicker/thinner oil temporarily just to see if it reduces or changes the noise. This could possibly help you figure out if its internal in the motor or something like exhaust manifolds where oil would have no affect.

I just replaced my exhaust manifolds. I had a ticking upon start up that quieted down pretty quick. I heard it consistently if my driver window was down and I would drive by a fence or a parked car and the sound would reverberate. Wrapped exhaust manifolds. I replaced with OEM manifold, new gaskets, new bolts. Sound is gone.

That was my experience. Your ticking sounds louder than mine so it could be a more extensive leak/warp of the manifolds. I have seen a couple videos online that sound very loud. Of course now I cannot find the video I was referring to on Youtube.

It seems like if the car is warm doesn't really effect the noise in my case. Possible it could still be exhaust manifold?

Yes. Mine was present even after being warm and definitely during acceleration. I could only hear it when the sound bounced off something. If I was driving in the open I could not hear it.

I would check your spark plugs, known to back out on this platform. It does sound like the manifold crack sometimes.

This does sound a bit deeper, like top end knock. I have no experience with this, other than hearing some lifter knock/noise in the past.
