Was just wondering if anyone out there has had any success using a synthetic oil in the automatic trans of their 100 series. Redline makes a direct replacement, D-6 synthetic atf, for the Toyota WS fluid, but there's plenty of folks out there that say to use only the WS fluid that Toyota supplies. The main goal here is to help the trans possibly run slightly cooler upon towing, within Toyotas specs of course.

Anyone ???

Mobile one in both of my LC's, motor oil, trans, differentials and transfer case. Plus bearing grease.

I am a big Redline fan and have used their gear and tranny fluids for 18+ years. DO NOT use the D6 in your tranny, I don't care what Redline says. Toyota has not released the WS specs and there is no way for Redline to know if D6 is the same as WS.

Mobile 1 everywhere!

I have used Mobil 1 ATF and Redline D4ATF in mine - both are excellent. However, my 100s specd Dextron III.

I have been using Mobile 1 atf for the past two years and have had good results.

I'm sure you have, your tranny doesn't call for T-IV or WS.

Year and transmission ?

I like Redline too but on a newer LC I would just run the OEM WS until the Redline is proved to be good stuff. Very little is known about the WS let alone the Redline D6. WS could be just a thin T-IV/D3, close to the new GM D6 or it could be a totally unique wonder fluid.

Have you sent questions to Redline about using the fluid in this application and how they developed the requirements to meet the needs of WS transmissions? Last time I checked they still had no D6 physical properties info on their website. I'd like to see info similar to this ....
AMSOIL Torque-Drive™ compared toTranSynd® Synthetic ATF

WS likely has synthetic components already so the benefits may not be as dramatic as others have experienced going from old/burnt DII to Amsoil/Mobil1 full synthetic.

Are you experiencing high temps now? The LC has a very effective trans cooler. I would start more conservative. First a temp gauge to see if there is even a problem. Then maybe adding a external transfluid filter to add fliltering, a little extra fluid volume and cooling surface.

And of course I'm running Amsoil ATF in my A343 but it is a Dexron transmission. I can't say it runs better than it did on standard fluid since it ran flawlessly then too, but I feel good about it.

Experienced some knocks in transmission in my 99LX
wehen shifting from first to second gear.
Totally replaced old ATF with Amsoil Sinthetic Universal ATF.
So far (15k miles) problem is gone. Transmission runs great.
