hello all.
Just had a question regarding my, new to me Lx 470. My wife recently surprised me with a 98 Lx 470 for christmas, with the red bow and everything. Just like the lexus commercial. Anyway, the rig is super clean but the suspension is nothing like the 98 LC I just sold. ( greatest truck ever I miss you my dear, and i didnt give a crap about the rust) It seems to ride funny. Im interested in buying stock springs for it, but the dealer prices seem to be pretty high. I have stock wheels on it so I think any lift might not look good. Any suggestions for aftermarket stock type suspension kits? I really love this forum and am a daily user even though I really dont say a peep. Everyone seems really cool.

I'd suggest going with Toyota parts and contacting Cruiser Dan or one of the many fellows on here that sell parts to the community. You don't need Lexus boxes parts.

Otherwise, I'd contact Slee and ask what it'd take to get to a stock replacement setup.

Personally I wouldn't buy a suspension based on current smaller tires/ those tires will get replaced at some point, and you might contemplate having wished to lift it (even mildly) for the future. Just a thought : )
 
Ride funny how? You may be low on fluid - has the AHC been serviced?
 
The ride seems very whoopie in the comfort mode. and the sport mode it is better. On bumpy roads it feels a little out of control. The fluid level seems fine. My wife had a mercedes wagon with hydraulic suspension and was very similar, the mechanic said it was a bad accumulator.
I like the idea of growing into a newer, larger set of tires but I just replaced them about 100 miles ago and thinking that this will always be my daily driver. I would love to buy a stock spring set up from a forum member. It was $1300 from the toyota dealer and that was with a discount.

When you say stock springs for a LX and $1300 in the same sentence something doesn't add up. The only springs are the rear, and they're ~150-200.

Did you mean they quoted you shocks? Accumulators? If you're mechanically inclined you can pull your accumulators one at a time and see if any of them are full of fluid. If they're full they're bad.

From my research here the shocks are either good, or they leak. There is no other common failure in the shocks.
 
Your heading down the rabbit hole. Just get rid of the AHC system and replace your entire suspension with a 2" lift OME with diff drop from Slee Off road. It will cost you less then trying to revive that 18 yo AHC system. Plus it will be new. That's what I did, could not be happier.
 
If your damper accumulators are original then they will be very close to (or are) past their serviceable life, even with their diaphragms still intact. If this is the case then you're looking at $1500ish to buy 4x OE NIB accumulators in the US, or considerably less $ for perfectly serviceable takeoffs from a later model year. Before pulling your damper accumulators consider doing the quick and easy low to high graduation check for a rough condition assessment, noting it's not completely accurate if neutral pressures are out of tolerance but you will get an indication. You can then follow up with the 16 step manual damping test (free again) to see if you can isolate the worst corner(s). Lastly, by ensuring your neutral pressures are optimized you will extract the best possible performance out of your damping system if there is any life left in your fitted damper accumulators. Sure, if you have a $5k POS you'd be nuts to over capitalize on new AHC components, but if you've got a clean vehicle you intend to keep then it's worth it imo to know what all your options are and the expected costs.

Sorry for my delay here. I've been meaning to gets some pics up and tell you what I think of my OME 1.5 lift set up. I purchased the 4 shocks, rear coils, and the front torsion bars from ARB thru my company. We buy at about a 20 % discount I believe off of retail which isn't to bad considering my business sells industrial supplies related to the construction world. I originally decided not to replace the torsion bars because the ones on my old LC seemed heavy duty enough but the ones on the LX are different. Once the new suspension was installed, there was no way that front end was going up high enough even being turned all the way. But the torsion bars from ARB are twice the size and boy are they an upgrade. It really came out nice and the stance was exactly what I was looking for. I had the CV axles rebuilt as well and a walker cat back exhaust installed and my total for parts and installation was around 2k, maybe a bit more. I just added 18 inch LX wheels, 305 A/T Ko2 tires and it looks really nice. My 5th 100 to date and I just bought my wife an 06 GX to replace our Subaru Outback.
I'll get some pics up soon.
